It’snounderstatementtosaythate-mailhashadaprofoundeffectonourprofessionalandpersonallives.Peoplethousandsofmilesawayfromeachothercansendandreceivedetaileddocumentswithinmereseconds.Thisallowsustotakeonprojectsthatwouldn’thavebeenpracticalorpossibleonlyafewyearsago.Ithasbecomeroutineforustocorrespondandexchangefileswithpeopleoverseas.Theonlyobstacleisthedifferenceintimezones.

Butontheotherhand,e-mailcaneatupasubstantialportionofourworkday.Mostofthetimeandeffortinvolvedisgoingthroughunsolicitedmessagesandseparatingthegoodfromthebad.Butnotallunsolicitedmessagesarespam.

Fortheblessing:

E-mailisaconversationthatdoesnotrequireanimmediateresponse(likeatelephone).Ifsomeonecallsyouonthetelephone,youpickitup(unlessyouhaveanansweringmachine,voicemailoryouarejustplainrude)andtheconversationbegins.Thisisaninteractiveconversation.
