Thecoursewillconsistofreadings,somelookingandlisteningassignments,classdiscussionandpresentations,visitstovariousexhibits,concerts,andperformances,andregularwritingassignments,bothgradedandungraded.Gradedassignmentsincludetwoshortessaysincriticismandthepreparationofatermprojectinphilosophicalaesthetics,tobedesignedinconsultationwiththeinstructor.Ungradedassignmentsincludefiveeventreports,areadingresponsepapereveryweek,andvariousin-classwritingexercises.Yourgradewillbebasedonthequalityofyourcriticalessays（40%）,thequalityandregularityofyourclassparticipationandreadingresponses（13%）,yourattendanceatfiveevents,eachdocumentedbyaonepageresponse（10%）,andthequalityofyourfinalproject（37%）.

CoursePolicies:

Inmyidealeducationalworld,therewouldbenogrades.Teacherstudentrelationshipswouldbevoluntary,andtheywouldbeindividuallynegotiatedaccordingtotheinterestsofthestudentandtheprofessor.Wedon'

tliveinthatworld.Intheworldwherewedolive,Ifindthefollowingpolicies,tobenecessary,andIexpectyoutoadheretothem.

Youmustmeetalldeadlinesandcompleteallassignments.Misseddeadlinesmaybepenalizedbyasmuchasalettergrade.Papersmorethanaweeklatewillnotbeacceptedunlessyouhavenegotiatedanextensioninadvance.Finalprojectswillnotbeacceptedwithoutpriorreviewofaroughdraft.

CourseOutline:
