如果第二个单位是一个缩略形式，从属连词就不要重复：
Theydidn’tsaywhetheritwillrainorbesunny.Iaskedthemiftheywantedmeatorfish.Idon’tcareiftheyjoinusornot.在非正式语体yes-no分句中，if往往比whether更为常见。
if后面不能跟ornot：

在正式文体中较常用的动词后面，whether更可取。

（比Wediscussedif…更常用。
）在正式文体中，在由两部分构成的带or的疑问句中，通常倾向于用whether。
TheDirectorshavenotdecidedwhethertheywillrecommendadividendorreinvesttheprofits.董事们还没有决定是建议分红还是将利润再次投资。

徐广联主编的《大学英语语法——讲座与测试》（第二版）第697页5whether和if引导的宾语从句，可以用肯定式，也可以用否定式，但含义时常不同。
Hewonderedifhehadbetterbreakuptherelationwithher.原文译文：
他想知道是否最好同她断绝关系。
（表示疑问）Hewonderedifhehadn’tbetterbreakuptherelationwithher.原文译文：
他知道最好还是同她断绝关系。
（表示肯定）6ask,wonder,discover,see,consider,doubt后的whether或if引导的宾语从句常有这种区别。
但有时候，if…not意同if肯定式。
Iwonderifheisn’tmistaken.我想他是错了。
=Iwonderifheismistaken.《新编高级英语语法》（章振邦主编）第491页Idon’tcareifshedoesn’tcome.这种宾语的疑问分句若是否定句，通常由if引导。
《英语常用词疑难用法手册》（陈用仪编著）第813页whether与ifwhether与if都可以表示“是否”，引入一个yes/no间接特殊问句的名词从句。
一般情况下，whether与if可以互用，没有什么区别。
在四种情况下，只能用whether，不能用if：
（a）该名词从句提前放在全句之首。
【例如】Whether（不用If）I’llgetthereintimeforHenry’slecture,Idon’tknow.你不能及时赶去听亨利的课，还不知道。
if不可引导主语分句，除非该分句是外置的：
Whethershelikesthepresentisnotcleartome.（错句）Ifshelikesthepresentisnotcleartome.It’snotcleartomewhether（orif）shelikesthepresent.《新编高级英语语法》（章振邦主编）第491页用if（=whether）引导的分句也可归入wh-疑问句，但if-分句不可作主语位于句首。
