France.ItallbeganwithawomancalledMrs.Troffea,whostartedtodancecrazilyinthestreet.

Shewassoonjoinedby34peoplewithinaweek;

bytheendofthemonth,thecrowdhadincreasedto400,mostofwhomwerewomen.Again,peopleweredancinguntiltheycouldnolongercontinue,withsomefinallydyingfromheartattacksorexhaustion.Onereportshowsthattheplaguewaskillingaround15peopleperday.

Astheplagueworsened,concernednobles(贵族)turnedtotheadviceoflocaldoctors,whosaidthattheplaguewasa 

“naturaldisease” 

causedby
