ItwasQuenyaunPayne’sfirsttriptothecityandTaylorSappington’ssecond.Payne,17,isasenioratMcEachernHighSchoolinthestateofGeorgia,US.Sappington,15,isajunioratTherrellHighSchoolinAtlanta,Georgia,US.BothsaidtheirvisittotheUNwasinspiring,“Ilikedhowcountriesarenotonlyworkingtogether,they’refocusedoncommongoalslikeglobalwarmingandkeepingthepeace,”Sappingtonsaid.Paynecommented,“Thetripwasamazing.I’msothankfulMrs.Baileymadeitpossible.”

Actually,therearealotofpeoplegratefulfortheretiredteacher’seffort.TheUnitedNationsAssociationofAtlantarecentlygaveBaileyitsHumanitarianAward,andtheUnitedNationsAssociationoftheUSawardedherwiththeNationalEducationAward.ButBaileywasn’tlookingforrecognitionorevengratitude.OverthosefourdaysinNewYork,she’dalreadyfeltit,seenitintheeyesofthose10teenagers,PayneandSappingtonincluded,whomadethetrip.“Ithasbeenarealjoytogettoseeandwatchtheirreactiontonewexperiences,”shesaid.
