摘要

翻译是运用一种语言把另一种语言所表达的思维内容准确而完整地重新表达出来的语言活动，其中正确理解原文是最基本的环节，是翻译的基础与关键。

同汉语一样，英语在长期的发展过程中形成了一词多义的现象，这就要求翻译者必须根据感情色彩，搭配、语境等要素判断一个词的意义，而词义的正确理解直接关系到能否可靠、准确地表达出在思想内容、感情色彩乃至风格韵味都与原作保持一致的佳作。

本文就此从英汉两种语言的差异与翻译，多义词的产生，多义词的正确理解与翻译及如何避免多义词的误译，几个方面讨论了如何正确理解并翻译英译汉中的多义词。
