Afterstudyingthisunit,studentsshouldbeableto:

Today,formaleducationservesagreaterpercentageoftheU.S.populationthanatanytimeinhistory.Itplayedanimportantrole,butstillexistsomeproblems.TheinfluenceofmodernpsychologyandofeducationreformerssuchasJohnDeweycausedschoolstobecomelessformal,morerelaxed,andsomewhatmorecenteredontheindividualchildratherthanontheinstitutionorthesociety.Schoolfacilitiesimprovedformoststudents,exceptperhapsintheinnercities.Moremoneywasspentoneducation,resultinginbothageneralupgradingofteachersalariesandimprovementsinprogramsthatfocusonspecifickindsofstudents,suchasspecialeducation.

Besides,somemembersoftheschoolreformmovementbelievethattoolittlepowerexistsatthelocallevel.Theyclaimthatteachersandschoolscanincreasetheireffectivenessonlybyhavinggreaterauthorityoversuchfundamentalmattersascurriculumcontent,teachingmethods,andhiringofstaff.Otherreformerscontendthatnotalllocalcommunitieshavetheresourcestoprovidequalityeducation.Theyarguethattomeetgoalsofequityandexcellence,alllocaldistrictsshouldmeethigheducationalstandardsandprovideampleschoolbudgets.

What’smore,inAmerica,asforeducation,peopleholddifferentpointofviewaboutthisquestionwhichworksbetter:

single-sexeducationorco-education?

Theconventionalthinkingthirtyyearsagowasthateducationwouldbreakdowngenderstereotypes.Also,promotingequalityofthesexesandeliminatinggenderbiashavebeenahugesocietalthemeforseveraldecadesnow.Withthatinmindwhichisbasedonthatlaudablethemeofequalityseemsliketherightwaytogo.However,somebelievethatcoeducationdoesnotworkforeverychild.Thesamesexeducationisthebetterchoicefortheeducationoftheyouthoftoday.Sincestudentsarethepotentialofthefutureeconomy,itisourresponsibilitytoprovidethemwithbestthatwecan.Samesexeducationcanhelp,andcanhelpalot.

Also,weknowtheplaintruththat.showsthatagirl'

sbrainisdifferentfromaboy'

sbrain.Onesizedoesnotfitall.Besides,someviewsinglesexeducationasanopportunitytocapitalizeonthelearningdifferencesinherentinboysandgirls.
