《飘》中斯嘉丽婚姻观的分析

摘要:
《飘》是美国作家玛格丽特·米切尔的杰作,它讲述了一个美国文学史上经典的爱情小说故事。
该小说以美国南北战争及战后重建为背景,以人物的爱情纠葛和生活遭遇为主线,主要描绘女主人公斯嘉丽的爱情与婚姻。
在对《飘》进行整体介绍之后,通过对斯嘉丽建立于报复、建立于金钱、建立于虚荣的三次婚姻的分析,融合了热爱家园、热爱朋友及对爱情的执着,表现了斯嘉丽三次婚姻不同的婚姻观,指出了斯嘉丽的婚姻观所形成的原因是当时的社会背景及其个性所致,并引导读者树立正确的婚姻观,同时激励人们积极乐观、坚强地对待困难。

GonewiththeWindisthemasterpiecewrittenbyMargaretMitchell,whichtellsaclassiclovestoryinthehistoryofAmericanliterature.ThisnovelsetsinthebackgroundoftheAmericanCivilWarandthepost-warreconstruction.Itregardsseveralyoungmen’slovestoriesandlifeexperienceasthemainline,concentratesontheloveandmarriageofthemainheroine,Scarlett.AftergivinganoverallintroductionofGonewiththeWind,thisthesisfocusesonanalyzingScarlett’smarriagesbasedonrevenge,basedonmoneyandbasedonvanity,mixeslovingthehometown,lovingthefriendsandthepersistencetothelovetogether.ItpointsoutthereasonofScarlett’sviewofmarriageiscausedbythesocietyandherpersonality.Italsoleadsthereaderstosetupacorrectattitudetoloveandmarriage.Atthesametime,itinspirespeopletobestrongandoptimisticwhenfacingtothedifficulties.

ThebookGonewiththeWindwrittenbytheAmericanfemalewriterMargaretMitchellisoneofthemostpopularAmericannovels,anditenablesMargaretMitchelltowinthePulitzerPrizein1937.ItsetsinthebackgroundofAtlantaandthepost-warreconstructionintheAmericanCivilWar,concentratesontheloveandmarriageofthemainheroineScarlettandtellsalovestoryofseveralyoungmen.Oncethenovelispublished,ithasbecomethebest-sellingworksoffictionintheworld.ItspublicationalsomakesMargaretMitchellbecomealiterarycelebrityovernightintheUnitedStates.Itssalebreaksmanyrecordsamongthepublishingcircleswhenitispublished,whichnowhasbeentranslatedintomorethanthirtylanguages.ThenoveldepictsavividpictureofthesociallifeduringtheAmericanCivilWar.ItisalovestorywhichtakesplaceintheSouthAmerica.ThemaincharacterisScarlett,whosefatherownsabigplantationcalledTarainthesouthernstateofGeorgia.ShefallsinlovewithAshley,butheloveshiscousinMelanieandgetsmarriedwithher.ScarlettfirstmarriesCharlesandunfortunatelyhediesinthewar.Scarlettbecomesawidow.Whenthewarends,lifeisreallyhardforherfamilyandScarletttakeschargeofthewholefamily.LatershemarriesFrankwhoisshottodeathandshebecomesawidowagain.ThethirdtimeshemarriesRhettButler,abusinessman,andtheyhaveababygirlcalledBonnie.Bonnieunexpectedlydiesfromafallbecauseofanaccident.Afteraseriesofevents,ScarlettfinallycomestounderstandthatwhoshereallyneedsisRhettButler.ButRhettButlercannolongertrustherandheisdeterminedtoleaveScarlett.

112-234),whichanalyzesthebackupforcesofScarlettforpeople.

2Scarlett’sMarriage
ScarlettisaparticularSouthfemalewhoispursuingtheromanticloveandhasanextremelycomplexpersonalityinthenovel.Itdescribesheremotionaljourneyfrom16to28.Forthese12years,shemarries3times,becomesawidowtwiceandhas3children.Shehasbeenfallinginlovewithamanwhocannotgetmarriedwithher,butshemissesamanwhohasbeenlovedherfor12years.Shegetsmarried3times,forrevenge,formoney,forvanity.Atthesametime,shetriesherbestforlove,forsurvival,forfamily.
Scarlettisabravegirl,whoovercomesmanydifficultiesanddangers,lettingherfamilygetoutoftroubleinthenovel.Asforhermarriage,manypeoplecriticizehermarriageforlife,inordertoachievehergoalsattheexpenseofothers’interests,evenattheexpenseofhersister’shappiness.Scarlettseparatesthelovefromthemarriageinherviewtoloveandmarriage.Inotherwords,sheseparatesthespiritfromtheflesh.Inadditiontothefirstmarriage,whichiscausedbyanger,admiringvanity,andsafeguardingtheinjuredself-esteem,shegetsmarriedforthesakeofmoneyinhertwomarriageslater.Shecangetmarriedformaterialandsurvivalattheexpenseofmarriage,evenattheexpenseofothers’interest(Sun,2003:
45).However,althoughScarlettgetsmarriedinordertolive,butneverjustforherself,butalsoforAshleyandeveryoneinherfamily.Sheisnotsoselfishjustlikethecriticismofothers.Thoughsheisselfish,butshealsoisaverykindwoman,whoseloveissopure.Forlove,shecandoanythingeventakecareofherrivalMelanie.Scarlett’sfirstmarriageisforthesakeofrevenge,inordertolivebesidestoAshleytomaintaintheirrelationship;thesecondmarriageisforthemoney,moreprecisely,forherfamily,herdreams,hersafety;thelastmarriageiscausedbythetemptationofRhett.Throughoutthehistory,somanywomengetmarriedforlivingandfindingashelter.Howeverthisisnotthewomen'sfault,notthemen'sfault,butiscausedbytheprejudiceandignoranceinthatera.

Thisisanunpreparedmarriage,whichhappensinthecaseofignorant.
FirstlyScarlettgetsmarriedwithCharles,becausesheisangrywithAshley,hopingtoletAshleyunderstandthatshecaresabouthimverymuchactually,whichisdictatedbyherchildishandcapricious.Secondly,shealsofiguresCharles’familyproperty,thinkingshecanliveinabighouseandgobackhomewithsplendidcarriageaftermarriage,whichisdictatedbyhervanity.ShedoesnotfeelsadwhenshehearsofCharles’deathinthewar.Whatsheisfedupwithisthatshemustwearthemourningclotheverydayandcannottakepartinthedancepartyinpub
