富爸爸

《富爸爸,穷爸爸》(RichDadPoorDad)是一个真实的故事。

作者罗伯特・清崎的亲生父亲和朋友的父亲对金钱的看法截然不同,这使他对认识金钱产生了兴趣,最终他接受了朋友的父亲的建议,也就是书中所说的。

Bothmenwerestrong,charismatic

(1)andinfluential.Bothmenofferedmeadvice,buttheydidnotadvisethesamethings.Bothmenbelievedstronglyineducationbutdidnotrecommendthesamecourseofstudy.

IfIhadhadonlyonedad,Iwouldhavehadtoacceptorrejecthisadvice.Havingtwodadsadvisingmeofferedmethechoiceofcontrasting

(2)pointsofview;oneofarichmanandoneofapoorman.

Insteadofsimplyacceptingorrejectingoneortheother,Ifoundmyselfthinkingmore,comparingandthenchoosingformyself.

Theproblemwas,therichmanwasnotrichyetandthepoormannotyetpoor.Bothwerejuststartingoutontheircareers,andbothwerestrugglingwithmoneyandfamilies.Buttheyhadverydifferentpointsofviewaboutthesubjectofmoney.

Forexample,onedadwouldsay,"Theloveofmoneyistherootofallevil."Theother,"Thelackofmoneyistherootofallevil."

Asayoungboy,havingtwostrongfathersbothinfluencingmewasdifficult.Iwantedtobeagoodsonandlisten,butthetwofathersdidnotsaythesamethings.Thecontrastintheirpointsofview,particularlywheremoneywasconcerned,wassoextremethatIgrewcuriousandintrigued(3).Ibegantostartthinkingforlongperiodsoftimeaboutwhateachwassaying.

Muchofmyprivatetimewasspentreflecting(4),askingmyselfquestionssuchas,"Whydoeshesaythat?

"andthenaskingthesamequestionoftheotherdad'sstatement.Itwouldhavebeenmucheasiertosimplysay,"Yeah,he'sright.Iagreewiththat."Ortosimplyrejectthepointofviewbysaying,"Theoldmandoesn'tknowwhathe'stalkingabout."Instead,havingtwodadswhomIlovedforcedmetothinkandultimatelychooseawayofthinkingformyself.Asaprocess,choosingthethingformyselfturnedouttobemuchmorevaluableinthelongrun,ratherthansimplyacceptingorrejectingasinglepointofview.

Oneofthereasonstherichgetricher,thepoorgetpoorer,andthemiddleclassstrugglesindebtisbecausethesubjectofmoneyistaughtathome,notinschool.Mostofuslearnaboutmoneyfromourparents.Sowhatcanapoorparenttelltheirchildaboutmoney?

Theysimplysay"Stayinschoolandstudyhard."Thechildmaygraduatewithexcellentgradesbutwithapoorperson'sfinancialprogrammingandmind-set(5).Itwaslearnedwhilethechildwasyoung.

Moneyisnottaughtinschools.Schoolsfocusonscholastic(6)andprofessionalskills,butnotonfinancialskills.Thisexplainshowsmartbankers,doctorsandaccountantswhoearnedexcellentgradesinschoolmaystillstrugglefinanciallyalloftheirlives.Ourstaggering(7)nationaldebtisdueinlargeparttohighlyeducatedpoliticiansandgovernmentofficialsmakingfinancialdecisionswithlittleornotrainingonthesubjectofmoney.

Ioftenlookaheadtothenewmillenniumandwonderwhatwillhappenwhenwehavemillionsofpeoplewhowillneedfinancialandmedicalassistance.Theywillbedependentontheirfamiliesorthegovernmentforfinancialsupport.WhatwillhappenwhenMedicareandSocialSecurityrunoutofmon

Althoughbothdadsworkedhard,Inoticedthatonedadhadahabitofputtinghisbraintosleepwhenitcametomoneymatters,andtheotherhadahabitofexercisinghisbrain.Thelong-termresultwasthatonedadgrewstrongerfinanciallyandtheothergrewweaker.Itisnotmuchdifferentfromapersonwhogoestothegymtoexerciseonaregularbasisversussomeonewhositsonthecouchwatchingtelevision.Properphysicalexerciseincreasesyourchancesforhealth,andpropermentalexerciseincreasesyourchancesforwealth.Lazinessdecreasesbothhealthandwealth.

Mytwodadshadopposingattitudesinthought.Onedadthoughtthattherichshouldpaymoreintaxesandtakecareofthoselessfortunate.Theothersaid,"Taxespunishthosewhoproduceandrewardthosewhodon'tproduce."

Onedadsaid,"ThereasonI'mnotrichisbecauseIhaveyoukids."Theothersaid,"ThereasonImustberichisbecauseIhaveyoukids."

Onedadencouragedtalkingaboutmoneyandbusinessatthedinnertable.Theotherforbadethesubjectofmoneytobediscussedoverameal.

Onesaid,"Whenitcomestomoney,playitsafe,anddon'ttakerisks."Theothersaid,"Learntomanagerisk."

Onebelieved,"Ourhomeisourlargestinvestmentandourgreatestasset."Theotherbelieved,"Myhouseisaliability,andifyourhouseisyourlargestinvestment,you'reintrouble."

Bothdadspaidtheirbillsontime,yetonepaidhisbillsfirstwhiletheotherpaidhisbillslast.

Beingaproductoftwostrongdadsallowedmetheluxuryofobservingtheeffectsdifferentthoughtshaveonone'slife.Inoticedthatpeoplereallydoshapetheirlifethroughtheirthoughts.

Forexample,mypoordadalwayssaid,"I'llneverberich."Andthatprophesy

(2)becamereality.Myrichdad,ontheotherhand,alwaysreferredtohimselfasrich.Hewouldsaythingslike,"I'marichman,andrichpeopledon'tdothis."Evenwhenhewasflatbrokeafteramajorfinancialsetback,hecontinuedtorefertohimselfasarichman.Hewouldcoverhimselfbysaying,"Thereisadifferencebetweenbeingpoorandbeingbroke.-Brokeistemporary,andpooriseternal."

Mypoordadwouldalsosay,"I'mnotinterestedinmoney,"or"Moneydoesn'tmatter."Myrichdadalwayssaid,"Moneyispower."

Thepowerofourthoughtsmayneverbemeasuredorappreciated,butitbecameobvioustomeasayoungboytobeawareofmythoughtsandhowIexpressedmyself.Inoticedthatmypoordadwaspoornotbecauseoftheamountofmoneyheearned,whichwassignificant,butbecauseofhisthoughtsandactions.Asayoungboy,havingtwofathers,IbecameacutelyawareofbeingcarefulwhichthoughtsIchosetoadoptasmyown.WhomshouldIlistento-myrichdadormypoordad?

Althoughbothmenhadtremendousrespectforeducationandlearning,theydisagreedinwhattheythoughtwasimportanttolearn.Onewantedmetostudyhard,earnadegreeandgetagoodjobtoworkformoney.Hewantedmetostudytobecomeaprofessional,anattorneyoranaccountantortogotobusinessschoolformyMBA.Theotherencouragedmetostudytoberich,tounderstandhowmoneyworksandtolearnhowtohaveitworkforme."Idon'tworkformoney!

Attheageof9,Idecidedtolistentoandlearnfrommyrichdadaboutmoney.Indoingso,Ichosenottolistentomypoordad,eventhoughhewastheonewithallthecollegedegrees.

OnceImadeupmymindwhomtolistento,myeducationaboutmoneybegan.Myrichdadtaughtmeoveraperiodof30years,untilIwasage39.HestoppedonceherealizedthatIknewandfullyunderstoodwhathehadbeentryingtodrumintomyoftenthickskull.

Moneyisoneformofpower.Butwhatismorepowerfulisfinancialeducation.Moneycomesandgoes,butifyouhavetheeducationabouthowmoneyworks,yougainpoweroveritandcanbeginbuildingwealth.Thereasonpositivethinkingalonedoesnotworkisbecausemostpeoplewenttoschoolandneverlearnedhowmoneyworks,sotheyspendtheirlivesworkingformoney.

BecauseIwasonly9yearsoldwhenIstarted,thelessonsmyrichdadtaughtmeweresimple.Andwhenitwasallsaidanddone,therewereonlysixmainlessons,repeatedover30years.Thisbookisaboutthosesixlessons,putassimplyaspossibleasmyrichdadputforththoselessonstome.Thelessonsarenotmeanttobeanswersbutguideposts(3).Guidepoststhatwillassistyouandyourchildrentogrowwealthiernomatterwhathappensinaworldofincreasingchangeanduncertainty.
