他们和其他村民一起被驱赶了几百米，走进了村里的广场，在那里他们被命令坐下。

“我们仍然觉得没什么可怕的。

”杜沙回忆道，“每个人都很平静。

我们以前都经历过这样的事。

”接着，他吃惊地看到美国兵架起了一挺机关枪。

人们无法再平静了，开始哭泣、乞求。

一个男人给一个美国兵看他的身份证件，但是这个美国人只是说了句“对不起”。

接下来，扫射开始了。

杜沙腿部受了伤，几乎失去了知觉，但是他被一堆尸体给盖住了，捡了一条命。

等了一个小时后，他逃离了这个村子。

Wespentalldaywithoneanother.SomeofthemcouldspeakEnglish.Bythelookofthem,theirtrencheswereinasbadastateasourown.Oneoftheirmen,speakinginEnglish,remarkedthathehadworkedinEnglandforsomeyearsandthathewasfeduptotheneckwiththiswarandwouldbegladwhenitwasover.Wetoldhimhewasn'ttheonlyonewhowasfedupwithit.TheGermanofficeraskedBillifwewouldlikeacoupleofbarrelsofbeerandtheybroughtthemovertous.Billdistributedthebeeramongusandweconsumedthelot.TheofficerscametoanunderstandingthatwewouldcelebrateChristmasinpeaceuntilmidnight.

Justbeforemidnightwealldecidednottostartfiringbeforetheydid.We'dformedabondandduringthewholeofBoxingDayweneverfiredashotandtheythesame；eachsideseemedtobewaitingfortheothertosettheballrolling.OneoftheirmenshoutedacrossinEnglishandaskedhowwehadenjoyedthebeer.Werepliedthatwewereverygratefulandspentthewholedaychattingwiththem.Thateveningwewerereplacedbyothersoldiers.
