SusanAnthonywasborninMassachusettsin1820anddiedinRochester,NewYork,in1906.Inthe1850s,shesawmanyproblemsinhercountryandwantedtodosomethingaboutthem.

OneoftheseproblemswasthatwomendidnothavetherighttovoteintheUnitedStates.SusanAnthonyandmanyothersfeltthatwomenandmenshouldhaveequalrights.In1869shehelpedstarttheNationalWomen'sAssociation.ThisgroupworkedhardtogetwomentherighttovoteintheUnitedStates.

In1869,thestateofWyominggavewomentherighttovote.Someotherstatesalsoallowedwomentovote.ButSusanAnthonyandtheNationalAmericanWomen'sAssociationWantedallwomentohavetherighttovote.TheyworkedtoaddthistotheconstitutionoftheUnitedStates.Finally,in1920,fourteenyearsafterSusanAnthony’sdeath,anarticlewasaddedtotheConstitution.ItgaveallAmericanwomentherighttovote.
