PART1–GENERAL
1.01SCOPE
A.SupplyaDCflywheelenergystoragesystemasdescribedhereintobeintegratedwithanuninterruptiblepowersupply(UPS)systemforthepurposeofmaintainingtheDCbusoftheUPSwithinspecifiedtolerancesduringfailureordeteriorationofthenormalpowersupply.
B.Includestart-upservicesforallequipment.
C.Rigging,installationlaborandinstallationmaterials(includingallinterconnectionsbetweendetachedpiecesofequipment)shallbetheresponsibilityofothers.
1.02SYSTEMDESCRIPTION
A.TheEquipmentshallincludeaDCflywheelenergystoragesystem(DCFESS)configuredasatwoterminalDCpowerstoragesystemandshallbeusedasafunctionalreplacementorsupplementforabankofchemicalbatteriesforstaticorrotaryUPSdesigns.Likeachemicalbatterybank,itshallreceiverechargeandfloatpowerfromthetwoterminalUPSDCbusandshallreturnpowertothesameDCbuswheneverthebusvoltagedroopsbelowaprogrammablethresholdlevel.TheDCFESSshallbecomprisedofthefollowingmajorelementsintegratedintoasingleunit:
1.Asinglecabinetwithoneortwointegralflywheelenergystoragesubsystem(s)(flywheel/motor/generator),bi-directionalACtoDCconverter(BDC),soft-startwalk-incontactorandtwoDCterminals(onepositiveandonenegative).

3.AllcontrolsandaccessoriesnecessaryfortheEquipmenttofunctionproperlyasspecified.
B.TheDCFESSshallprovideatleast13secondsride-throughtimeatratedloadwithoutusingchemicalbatteries.
C.TheDCFESSshallberated250kWor500kW.Powerratingsdecreaselinearlyfrom250kWperwheelto187kWperwheelasdischargevoltagesettingisreducedfrom480to360VDC(i.e.,CS2-500at400VDCdischargehaspowercapacityof400/480x500kW=417kW).Deliveredenergyfromeachwheelremainsconstant.
D.AnoptionalinternalDCdisconnectshallbeavailableasanintegratedpartoftheDCFESSwithoutincreasingthecabinetsizeandshallbeincludedwhenspecified.
1.03QUALITYASSURANCE
A.TheDCFESSand,whenincluded,theDCdisconnectshallbetestedatthefactoryforproperoperation.TheDCFESSshallbefunctionallytestedandshallbeburnedinforaminimumof48hours.Copiesofthefactorytestreportandqualitycontrolprogramdocumentationshallbeprovidedonrequest.
B.TheDCFESSshallbelistedandlabeledbyULinaccordancewiththeapplicablerequirementsofUL1012,UL1778andUL1004.TheDCFESSshallalsobequalifiedforCEMark.AllotherEquipmentshallbelistedandlabeledinaccordancewiththeapplicableULrequirements.
C.DCFESSdesignandconstructionshallconformtothefollowingstandardsasapplicable:
1.UL1012SpecialtyPowerSupplies;UL1778,StandardsforUninterruptiblePowerSupplyEquipment;andUL1004,ElectricMotors.

1.04PROPOSAL
A.Providefirmpriceanddeliverylead-timemeasuredfromthedateoforderreceiptfortheEquipmentandservicesinaccordancewiththerequirementsofthisspecification.
B.ProvideaparagraphbyparagraphspecificationcompliancethatclearlyidentifieswhethertheproposedEquipmentandservicescomplywiththespecification(Comply),complywiththeintentoftheparagraphandprovidetheperformancespecifiedbutdeviateinminordetail(Deviation),ordonotcomply,donotprovidethespecifiedperformanceorsubstantiallydeviatefromthespecificationrequirements(Exception).Iftheproposalcompliesfullywiththerequirementsofaparagraph,thenotation“Comply”shallbeappliedtotheparagraphandnonotationsassociatedwiththatparagraphshallrelievethesupplierfromcomplyingwiththerequirementsoftheparagraph.AnyDeviationorExceptionmustbemarkedwiththelegend“Deviation”or“Exception”,respectively,andexplainedsufficientlytoallowthepurchaseroritsagentstoclearlyevaluatetheeffectandconsequencesoftheDeviationorException.
C.Includeallotherinformationrequiredbythisspecificationtobepartoftheproposal.
1.05SUBMITTALS
A.Providegeneralarrangementdrawingsshowingallexteriordimensions,cableaccess,shippingsplits,andclearances.Showsizes,weights,andrelationshipsbetweenindividualshippingunits,thelocationanddesignationofallfieldwiringterminationareas,andthemaximumnumberandpermissiblesizerangeofpowerconductorswhichcanbeaccommodatedforeachpowertermination,heatrejection,airflow,andlocationofairinletsandoutlets.
B.ProvideassemblyandmountingdetailsforallEquipmentandshippingsplits.
C.Provideelectrical,mechanical,andenvironmentalspecificationsfortheproposedequipment.Alsoincludethisinformationinthebid.
D.Providethesameparagraph-by-paragraphresponsetothesespecificationsinsufficientdetailtoclearlyshowalldeviations.Clearlyidentifyanychangesinthiscompliancecomparedtothecompliancesuppliedwiththeproposal.Thesubmittalmayberejectedifitcontainsanydeviationsorexceptionsnotincludedintheproposal.
E.Provideelectricalone-linedrawingsshowingallpowerandcontrolinterconnectwiring.Includenumberofconductors,powerwiringamperages,arrangementandratingsofallprotectiondevices,andcontrolwiresizeandtype.
F.Providepointtopointinterconnectdrawingsorwirelistsdetailingtheterminationpoints,andterminaldesignationsforallfieldwiringbetweenequipmentorshippingsplits.Thisdrawingwilleithercontainwiringrequirementsorshallbekeyedtotheone-linedrawinginamannerthatclearlydetermineswiringrequirements.
G.Providetwocopiesofalldrawingsatleast30dayspriortoshipment.Shipusermanualswithequipment.
1.06MANUALS
Provide1setofusermanualspersiteofDCFESSdeploymentcontainingsafety,handling,storage,installation,operationandnormalmaintenanceinstructions.Themanualsshouldalsocontainspecifications,requirements,descriptions,andfeaturesforallequipment.
1.07WARRANTYANDMAINTENANCECONTRACT
ThemanufacturershallwarranttheEquipmentagainstdefectinworkmanshipandmaterialsfor12monthsfromdateofequipmentshipmenttotheinitialenduser.
PART2–PRODUCTS
2.01ACCEPTABLEMANUFACTURERS
TheapprovedmanufacturerfortheDCFESSisActivePower,Inc.Nosubstitutionsarepermitted.
2.02CONSTRUCTION
A.Allmaterialsusedshallbenew,ofcurrentmanufacture,highquality,freefromdefectsandshallnothavebeeninprevioususeexceptasrequiredforfactorytesting.
B.AllEquipmentexceptforanyremoteannunciationpanels,remoteEPOpanelsorcomputermonitoringequipment,shallbefree-standingNEMA1constructionorIECequivalent.
C.Cableaccessshallbepermittedfromthetopusingracewayorconduitwithoutmodification.Bottomcableaccessshallbeanoption.
D.ConstructionofEquipmentshallfacilitateliftingwithforklift.ClearanceshallbeprovidedinthebaseofEquipmenttoallowliftingbyforkliftfromthefrontorrear.Theinstallingorriggingcontractorshallprovideappropriateslingsandspreaderbarsifsystemistobeliftedbycrane.
E.AllwiringshallbeinaccordancewithNFPA70,OSHA,andEN.Allpowerconductors,transformerandchokewindingsshallbecopper.Allbusbarconnectionsshallbebetweencopper,silver-platedcopperortin-platedcoppersurfacesandshallbebetweenlikemetals.Connectionsshallbeproperlytorqued.
F.AllcontrolwiringinterconnectionsbetweenshippingsplitsofasinglepieceofEquipmentshallbesuppliedandfittedwithconnectorsorfanningstripsconstructedandidentifiedtopreventincorrectconnection.
G.Allfieldcontrolwiringterminationsshall
