Sewagetreatment

Abstract

Sewagetreatment,ordomesticwastewatertreatment,istheprocessofremovingcontaminantsfromwastewaterandhouseholdsewage,bothrunoff(effluents)anddomestic.Itincludesphysical,chemical,andbiologicalprocessestoremovephysical,chemicalandbiologicalcontaminants.Itsobjectiveistoproduceawastestream(ortreatedeffluent)andasolidwasteorsludgesuitablefordischargeorreusebackintotheenvironment.Thismaterialisofteninadvertentlycontaminatedwithmanytoxicorganicandinorganiccompounds.
