II.Analysisofcharacteristicsofthelearners:

HavingbeenlearningEnglishlanguageforatleastmorethanthreeyears,thestudentsacquiresomebasiclanguageabilities.Theycantalkaboutcertaintopics,expressingtheiridealsandthoughtstosomedegree;theyhavemasteredsomereadingskillsandcanunderstandtheteachingcontent.

JuniorstudentshavealreadyknownsomeknowledgeaboutfestivalsinChinaandabroad.Theircognitivecompetencehasapproachedcertainleveltolearnabout,understandandhaverightattitudetowardwesterncultureandChinesetraditionalculture.

Theyarelongingforthenewthings,andhaveastrongdesiretolearntheknowledge.Furthermore,theirthinkingisbrisk,andtheyareeagerforthepraise,andsomestudentswillbegladtotakepartintheactivityenergetically.

 

III.Analysisoftheteachingcontents:

Thisisthefirstteachingperiodofthisunit.InthisperiodstudentswillhaveabetterunderstandingofChinesetraditionalfestivalsandknowmoreaboutwestculture.Theycanbroadentheirhorizonanddeveloptherightattitudestowardstheirownfestivalsandwesternfestivals.

Atthebeginningoftheclass,theteachercanleadinthetopicoftheunitbyhavingafreetalkwithstudentsabouttheirwinterholidaysandtheSpringFestival.

B.WarmingUp

ThispartisintendedtohavestudentsstartthinkingaboutthevarietyofeventsandfestivalsthatarecelebratedinChina,andconnectthemwithseasonsoftheyearandreasonsforthecelebrations.TheteachercanusethisparttointroduceinformationthatChinesestudentsshouldhaveabouttheircountry’sculturalevents.

C.Pre-reading

ThePre-readingisacontinuationoftheWarmingUpanditmovesthediscussiontoamorepersonallevel.Itisintendedtohelpstudentsenterimaginativelyintoadiscussionoffestivalsandtheirimportancetothesociety.Italsodirectstheirattentiontothevarietyofeventsandactivitiesthosefestivalsinclude.TheteachershouldletstudentsdiscussthequestionsandpredictwhatkindofinformationwillbeintroducedintheD.Reading.
