IbelievedthatifIcouldunderstandmylife-oratleastthepartmyworkplayedinit-Icouldwriteitwithsomedegreeofjoy,somethingobviouslymissingfrommylife.”
Levinepublished（出版）hisfirstcollectionofpoems.OntheEdge.in1961,followedbyNotThisPigin1968.Throughouthislife.Levinepublishedmanybooksofpoems,winningmanyprizes,Areviewsaid:

Attheendoftheirhighschoollife,andaftergettinghigheroradvancedhighergradeexamresults,moststudentsdecidetomoveontosomeformoffurthereducation.Somestudentscanremain,takingspecialisedcoursesattheWestHighlandcollege,butmostleavehomeinLochaberandgosouthoreasttocities,Manyyoungpeopleinthisareafeelthattherearenotenoughopportunitieshere,Goingtoacitycertainlymeansnewfriends,awholenewlifestyle,andamoreexcitingnightlife.
EventhoughFortWilliamis,inaway,smallandfarawayfromcities,asfarasIamconcerned,itisagreatplacetolive.Thereisarealcommunityatmosphere（氛围）here,andmanypeopleknow,orarerelatedto,manyotherpeople.ThereisalwayssomethingtodoorseeinFortWilliamandthereisnoexcuseforbeingbored!
