STOMPwasformedbyBritishmusiciansLukeCresswellandSteveMcNicholas.Theymetintheearly1980swhentheywerebothworkingasbuskers,theBritishtermforstreetperformers.CresswellandMcNicholaswerepartofabuskinggroupcalledPookiesnackenburgerthatbecameverypopularthroughoutBritain.

Cresswellwasadrummer(鼓手)forthegroup.Becausetheyperformedonthestreet,hecouldnotsetupatraditionaldrumset.Instead,heworeonedrumthathungaroundhisshoulders.Tobeabletomakedifferentsounds,Cresswellbeganbeatingoneverydayobjectsthathecouldfindduringperformances.ThiscreativedrummingledtotheideaforSTOMP.

STOMPmadeitsfirstpublicappearanceatLondon’sBloomsburyTheatrein1991.Theperformersusedone-of-a-kindinstruments,suchasemptywaterbottles,basketballs,andmatchboxestocreatemusic.WearingoverallsandT-shirts,theydancedaroundonastagemadetolooklikeaclosedwarehouse(仓库).STOMPwasagreatsuccess,winningmanytheaterawardsanddrawinghugecrowds(人群).

In1994,STOMPcametotheUnitedStatesandplayedattheOrpheumTheaterinNewYorkCity.Yearslateritisstillplayingthere!
