英汉翻译技巧和实践

词类转译法

转换成动词

英语和汉语比较起来，汉语中动词用的比较多。

往往在英语句子中只用一个谓语动词，而在汉语中却可以几个动词或动词性结构连用。

Headmiresthepresident’sstateddecisiontofightforthejob

他对总统声明为保住其职位而决心奋斗表示钦佩。

一、名词转译成动词

1.英语中大量有动词派生的名词和具有动作意义的名词以及其他名词往往可转译成汉语动词。

有动词派生的名次转译成动词，在政论文体中出现比较多。

Oneafteranother,speakerscalledforthedownfallofimperialism,abolitionofexploitationofmanbyman,liberationoftheoppressedoftheworld.

发言人一个接一个表示要打倒帝国主义，要消灭人剥削人的制度，要解放世界上的被压迫人民。

Until1972,alleffortsbythetwonationstocurbthenucleararmsracehadfounderedononepoint:

U.S.insistenceontherighttomakeon-siteinspectionsoftheSovietstrategicarsenalandRussia’srefusal.

到一九七二年为止，美苏之间关于限制和军备竞赛的一切努力都在这一点上失败了：

2.含有动作意味的名词往往可以转译成动词

一周快结束时，敌人彻底崩溃了。

从他的办公室窗口可以一眼看到华盛顿纪念碑和林肯纪念馆的全景。

AsItaxiedoverthemuddysteelmattingoftherunway,IgotawaveandagrinfrommywingmanLt.RexBarber.

当我驾驶飞机在泥泞的钢垫跑道上滑行时，我的僚机驾驶员雷马克.巴伯中尉向我边笑边招手。

3.英语中有些加后缀-er的名词，如：

teacher，thinker有时在句子zhogn并不是指身份和职业，却含有较强的动作意味，在汉语中没有恰当的对应名词，可以翻译为动词

IamafraidIcan’tteachyouswimming.IthinkmylittlebrotherisabetterteacherthanI.

我未必会教你游泳，我想我的弟弟比我教的好。

Talkingwithhisson,theoldmanwastheforgiveroftheyoungman’spastwrongdoing.

在和儿子谈话时，老人宽恕了年青人过去所干的坏事。

Althoughhewasalwaysthe“background”brieferonforeignpolicyissues,hecouldneverbyidentifiedasanythingotherthan“aWhiteHouseofficial”or“ahighAdministrationsource.”

虽然外交问题的“背景情况”总是由他介绍，但他仍只能称为是“一位白宫官员”或“一位政府高级人士”。

4.作为习语主体的名词往往译成动词，如：

Tohavearest

Tohaveagoodlookat

Agreatcloudrosefromthegroundandfollowedthetrailofthegreatsun.atfirstitwasagiantcolumn,whichsoontooktheshapeofasupramundanemushroom.ForafleetinginstantittooktheformoftheStatueofLiberty

一朵庞大的烟云随着一轮巨日从地面升起。

他起初是个巨大的圆柱，很快形成了凌云驾空的大蘑菇，一瞬间又变成了一座扩大了许多倍的自由神像。

二、前置词转译成动词

英语中前置词很多，其中含有动作的可以转译成动词

Partyofficialsworkedlonghoursonmeagerfood,incoldcaves,bydimlamps.

党的干部吃简陋的食物，住寒冷的窑洞，靠微弱的灯光，长时间工作。

“coming”Awaysheskimmedoverthelawn,upthepath,upthesteps,acrosstheveranda,andintotheporch.

来啦！

她转身蹦着跳着地跑了，越过草地，跑上小径，跨上台阶，穿过凉台，进了门廊。

Ibarreledstraightahead,acrosstheharbourandoutoverthesea.

我笔直向前高速飞行，越过港口，飞临海面。

CarlisleStreetrunswestward,acrossagreatblackbridge,downahillandupagain,bylittleshopsandmeat-markets,pastsinglestoredhomes,untilsuddenlyitstopsagainstawidegreenlawn.

克列斯尔大街往西伸展，越过一座黑色大桥，爬下山岗又爬了上去，经过许多小铺和肉市，又经过一些平房，然后突然冲出一大片绿色草地终止了。

三、形容词转译成动词

英语中表示知觉、情欲、欲望等心理状态的形容词，翻译时要处理为动词。

Confident,certain,careful,cautious,angry,sure,ignorant,afraiddoubtful,aware,concerned,glad,delighted,sorry,ashamed,thankfulanxious,grateful,able等。

Doctorhavesaidthattheyarenotsuretheycansavehislife.

Thefactthatshewasabletosendamessagewasahint.ButIhadtobecautious.

NaturallytheNazisoldiersweremoreconcernedwithsavingtheirownlivesthanwithtakingours.

四、副词转译成动词

Asheranout,heforgottohavehisshoeson.

Mr.NixonhadsaidrepeatedlythattheAmericanwarinIndochinawouldsoonbeover.

Thatdayhewasupbeforesunrise.

Sheopenedthewindowtoletfreshairin.

转译成名词

英语中很多由名词派生的动词，以及由名词转用的动词，在汉语中不易找到相应的动词，这时，可将其名词化。

1.名词派生的动词

Formalityhasalwayscharacterizedtheirrelationship.

他们之间的关系有一个特点，就是以礼相待。

Asthewarprogressed,hewouldsymbolizetheirfrustrations,theembodimentofallevils.

随着战争的进行，它成了他们受挫的象征，成了一切坏事的化身。

Tothem,hepersonifiedtheabsolutepower.

在他们看来，他就是绝对权威的化身。

2.名词转用的动词

Intheearlydawn,theguardtowersweresilhouettedagainstthesky.

黎明时，天空映出了瞭望塔的轮廓。

MostU.S.spysatellitearedesignedtoburnupintheearth’satmosphereaftercompletingtheirmissions.

美国绝大多数间谍卫星，按其设计，在完成使命后，在大气层中焚毁。

SomeofthemwerealreadyplanningtostaffaHumaneryAdministrationintheeventtheDemocraticcandidatewonanelection.

他们中间有些人，已经在为民主党候选人一旦获胜后汉夫莱政府计划人事安排。

有些英语被动式句子的动词，可以译成“受（遭）到……+名词”、“予（加）以+名词”这类结构。

SnowwastreatedveryshabbilybytheU.S.pressandofficialdomduringthisperiod,victimizedforhisviews.

在这期间，斯诺受到了美国新闻界和政界极不公正的对待，由于他的观点，他受到了迫害。

Throwatennisballonthefloor.Theballbouncesback.Inthesameway,whenlightfallsoncertainthingsitbouncesback.Whenthishappens,thelightissaidtobereflected.

将网球扔到地板上，球会弹回来。

同样，光照在某些物体上时也会弹回来。

这种情况叫做受到反射。

（三）形容词转译成名词

1.英语中有些形容词加上定冠词表示某一类人，汉译时常译成名词。

1）Theydidtheirbesttohelpthesickandthewounded.

他们尽了最大的努力帮助病号和伤员。

2）RobinHoodandhismerrymenhatedtherichandlovedandprotectedthepoor.

罗宾汉和他的伙伴们痛恨阔人，热爱并保护穷人。

3）SSguardstheshovedeachprisonerinthedirectionthedoctorhadindicated.Thosewhohuddledpitifullytogetherontheleftweretheold,theinfirm,theill,theveryyoung.Judgedunfitforwork,theywerebeingconsignedtothegaschamber.

希特勒的党卫军按医生所指的方向把被监禁的人推过去。

那些可怜地挤在左边的人都是些老、弱、病、幼者。

他们被认为不适宜干活，正被送到毒气室去处理。

2.此外，根据情况还有些形容词可以译成名词。

1）Stevensonwaseloquentandelegant—butsoft.

史蒂文森有口才、有风度，但很软弱。

2）TheWildefamilywerereligious.

王德尔全家都是虔诚的教徒。

3）Theywereconsideredinsincere.

他们被人认为是伪君子。

翻译下列各句，将斜体的派生名词译成动词

Anacquaintanceofworldhistoryishelpfultothestudyofcurrentaffairs.

Hisveryappearanceatanyaffairproclaimsitatriumph.

Alloysteelsareformedbytheadditionofoneormoreofthefollowingelements:

nickel,tungsten,siliconandsmallamountsofotheralloyingelements.

Heurgeduponcitizensofthecountrythenecessityofpersistinginparticipationinpoliticalcontroversies.

将斜体的动作名词转译为动词

Atthethoughtofthemishap（灾祸）hislegsstiffenedunderhimandcouldn’tmoveastepfurther.

Afteranimpatientoathortwo,shegotherhairawayfromhereyes,sufficientlytoobtainasightofhim.

在走过市区的时候，他们看见领救济食品的人排着长队。

从这里可以看到富士山。

他一想到这场灾难，两腿就如有千斤重，在一挪不动一步了。

她不耐烦地咒骂了一两声，把头发从眼睛上拨开，才看到他。

将斜体的由动词加后缀er（or）构成的迷宫那次转译成动词

Heisnosmoker,buthisfatherisachain-smoker.

Hewasaregularvisitor.

SheisloverofChinesepainting.

Therewerevariouspossibleplayersfortherole.

他倒是不抽烟，但他爸爸却一支一支不停地抽。

他经常来。

她热爱中国画。

可能扮演这种角色的有好几个人。

将斜体的名词转译成动词

Hehasalreadymadementionedofthematterinhisspeech.

Heshowedwithhiseyesthatheheard,butmadenosignofassentordissent.

ThePartybranchsecretaryshowedgreatconcernforthestudents’health.

ShehadhighpraiseforDr.Higpan,althoughshecomplainedabouthisstrictness.

他在演讲中曾提到过这件事。

他瞧了他一眼，表示听见了，打没有表示同意或不同意。

党支书很关心学生的健康。

她高度赞扬了西格潘医生，但抱怨他过于严格。

将前置词译成动词

Upthestreettheywent,paststores,acrossabroadsquare,andthenenteredahugebuilding.

Wedrovehomeabitaftermidnight,overtheriverandthroughthelovelyoldsleepingtown.

Thejudgesatinthedining-roomamidhismorningmail.

他们沿着大街走去，经过许多商店，穿过一个大广场，然后进入了一座大厦。

时过午夜，我们驱车回家。

先过了河，又穿过了这个在酣睡中的古老而可爱的城市。

法官坐在餐厅了处理早上到的邮件。

试译下列各句，将斜体的副词转译成动词。
