Theirearsarethelargestamongallfoxesrelativetothebodysize,whichnotonlyprovidethemwithgreathearing,butalsoradiatetheextremedesertheatandthushelptokeepthebodycool.Moreover,inordertowalkonthehotsand,aFennecfox'sfeetarecoveredwiththickfur.Notonlythat,thefeetalsohelpindigging,asthisanimallivesundertheground.

HabitatandLifestyle

ThehabitatofthisanimalismainlyintheSaharaDesert,andalsoinotherpartsofNorthAfrica.TheFennecfoxisusuallyactiveduringthenight.Thischaracterhelpsitdealsuccessfullywiththeextremeheatinthedesert.

Asanextremelysocialanimal,itoftenlivesingroupsoftenandeachgrouphasitsownland.Thisanimalis,however,aggressivetoo,readytoattack,especiallyinthemating(交配)season,whentheyallcompetewitheachotherforamate.

Diet

TheFennecfoxisanomnivore(杂食动物).Whileitcansurviveonplants,italsoneedsotheritemssuchasinsects,rabbits,birdsandeggs.Gettingusedtolivinginthedesertallowsittosurviveforlongperiodswithoutanywater.Theyareknowntotakeinwaterwheneatingfood,butwilldrinkwaterifavailable.

ThescientistsrecordedMasaimen,womenandchildrensaying,intheirownlanguage,“Look,lookoverthere,agroupofelephantsarecoming.”TheyalsorecordedKambamensayingthisphrase.

Masaipeopleoftencomeacrosselephants,whichcanresultinviolent(暴力的)hunting.Kambapeople,however,mainlyfeedonagriculture,whichdoesnotgenerallybringthemintoviolenttouchwiththeanimals.
