“WhenNoahfirstcameupwiththisidea,initiallyIthought,‘Well,that’sreallycharmingandcute,’”JoanneBarnes,Noah’sMum,recalls.“Butwhenyoustartedthinkingaboutitlogisticallyandfinancially,leavinghometodothis——itwascompletelynuts!

AndIstartedthinkingabouthowhugethiswas—Noahwoulddosomethingreallybig,andwhywouldIholdhimbackfromdoingsomethingreallygreat?

TheBarnesdecidedtosetoutonthejourneyasafamily.RobertquittedhisjobandtheysoldtheirhouseinJunoBeach.EarlyonthemorningofJanuary1st,2017,NoahbeganhislongwalkacrossAmerica.RobertaccompaniedNoahoneverystep,withMumandtheothertwochildrenadvancinginthefamily’sorangeJeepWrangler,providingsupport,andwalkingwithRobertandNoahonoccasion.
