 Ontheotherhand,theEducationAct2011,whichcameintoforceinNovember,placesschoolsunderadutytogivefaircareeradvicetopupils.Thisadvicemustincludeinformationonallpost-16educationandtrainingchoices,includingapprenticeships.Thisdoesn’tappeartobehappeninginseveralschools,accordingtoOfsted9Sreport.Manyoftheyoungpeopletheinspectorstalkedtosaidtheadvicetheyhadreceivedonapprenticeshipswas“unsatisfactory”.

 Schoolswerealsoblamedforlackofworkexperiencecourses,whichareparticularlyimportantforteenagersconsideringanapprenticeship.Theyhelpstudentsdecidewhethertheyenjoyalineofworkandenableemployerstoseewhetherthoseonworkexperiencehavethepotentialtobehiredasapprenticesinfutureyears.

 Butthereisagoodreasonwhytheycan’tdothis:
