28. 逝者如斯夫！

While the dread enemy fleet was burned to ashes!
In fancy through those scenes of old I range.
My heart overflowing,surely a figure of fun.

Ah,this life is a dream,
Let me drink to the moon on the river!
Alone I lean against the parapet of a high tower in a gentle breeze,
Gazing into the distance where the grief of separation
Looms on the horizon.
Amidst the grass and hills shimmering in the setting sun,
No one can fathom the inquietude of my mide.
I tried to drown my sorrows in wine and song;
And fored myself to drink to oblivion but I am empty still
My clothes hang loose on my emaciated body
But regrets I have none, it is because
In my young days, I had tasted only gladness,
But loved to mount the top floor,

And now I’ve tasted sorrow’s flavoures, bitter and sour,
And can’t find a word,

But merely say, “What a golden autumn hour
From a pot of wine among the flowers
I drank alone. There was no one with me --

To bring me my shadow and make us three.
Alas, the moon was unable to drink
And my shadow tagged me vacantly;

To cheer me through the end of spring….
I sang. The moon encouraged me.
I danced. My shadow tumbled after.
As long as I knew, we were boon companions.
And then I was drunk, and we lost one another.
…Shall goodwill ever be secure?
I watch the long road of the River of Stars.
The thread in the hands of a fond-hearted mother
