First,thespeakingsituationhelpsmakewordsmoreparticular.Forexample,theword“dog”candescribeadogthataspeakersawinadream.Itcanalsobeusedtodiscussaneighbour’sdog.Nolanguagehasaseparatewordfortheidea“dogthatIsawyesterday”andanotherwordfortheidea“dogthatIsawinadream”.Thisisbecausethespeakingsituationmakesitclearwhatspeakersmeanwhentheyusewords.So,whenyouhaveaconversationwithyourneighbour,theknowledgethatyouhaveadogtellsyourneighbourwhattheword“dog”probablymeansinthatsituation.
