OneofthemostexcitingthingsabouttheEurostaristhatitgoesthroughatunnelunderthesea.ThisiscalledtheChannelTunnel,andgoesbetweenFolkestoneinEnglandandSangatteinFrance.Thetunnelis31mileslong,andcost$21billiontobuild.Thispartofthejourneytakesabout20minutesandyoudon'treallynoticewhatishappening,butsomepeoplechoosenottotravelbytheEurostarbecausetheideaofitworriesthem.Thetunnelhasbeenmadeassafeaspossible,however,andtherearetwoothertunnelsthatpeoplecangetoutofquicklyifthereisafireoranaccident.

Itisalsopossibletodrivethroughthetunnel,butthistakesmuchlongerthanthehigh-speedtrain.Thetrainshaveatopspeedof180mph,andrunonspecialtracks.Thesetracksallowthetraintogomuchfaster.

However,whathappenedonecloudyOctobermorningin1987overSalisburyPlainwasfarfromajoke.AfighterplanewasflyingovertheplainnearBoscombeDown,animportantairfieldusedbythearmy.Thepilotoftheplanewasinradiocommunicationwiththeairfield.Suddenly,'whilethepilotwasgivinginformationabouthisheightandspeed,theairfieldlostallcommunicationwiththeplane.

Theairfieldsentanotherplanetolookforit,whiletheytriedtogetbackintoradiocommunicationwiththefighterplane.Whenthesecondplanefoundthefirstone,itwasflyingovertheAtlanticOcean.Butwhenthepilotgotclosertoithehadaterribleshock.Therewasnobodyintheplane-itwasflyingbyitself.
