4、, Heathcliff returns to Wutherine Heights with money and the trapping of a gentleman. When he finds Catherine has been married Edgar Linton, he seeks his revenge. Heathcliff marries Edgars young sister Isabella and ,not loving her, treats her cruelly. Catherine dies with Heathcliffs violent love aft

5、er giving birth to Edgars daughter, Cathy.In revenge of Hindleys cruel treatment of himself in his childhood, Heathcliff turned him into drunkard and gambler and won all his possessions. 16、haracterized in evil, cruel, selfish and so on. He had suffered from loneliness, hopelessness, coldness, mockery and scorn since he was born. First, Heathcliff was evil to Catherine .As we all know, Heathcliff was an orphan. He had worn out faces before brought up by Mr. Earnshaw. He was poor both i

17、n material and spirit. It was Catherine, an enthusiastic, lovely girl, that opened his heart. Catherine was Heathcliffs only company when he was a child, giving him warmth and happiness. When Hindley bullied Heathcliff, Catherine protected him. They fell in love with each other. When Heathcliff was

18、degraded from Earnshaws company to a servant, he had nothing even dignity. Whats more, Catherine had betrayed him when she faced the choice between the true love and reputation. Her decision to marry Edgar Linton hurt Heathcliff deeply and inverted his strong love into intense hatred. The bitter hat

19、red formed Heathcliff screwy personality: brutality, mercilessness and harshness. Three years later, Heathcliff became a devil with wealth and power and returned to Wuthering Heights. He wanted to revenge what he had received from Linton and Catherines betray for their love. Their being-together was

His appearance and marry to Isabella made Catherines life never peaceful, made her collapsed not only in physical but also in mind, just because Isabella still loved him deeply. Second, Heathcliff was so hurt that he couldnt forgive Hindly and Edgar. He was evilly deli

21、ght in revenging and ruining what he bitterly hated in mind. Heathcliff racked his mind to scheme the evil plan to destroy Hindly and Edgars happy life. This plan had continued a long time until the people he born revenge died. Hindley mocked at and abused Heathcliff in his childhood. Hindley degrad

22、ed Heathcliffs value and made him poor. Hindleys oppression is one of the reasons form Heathcliffs revenge. In punishment Hindleys ill-treatment, Heathcliff controlled entirely Hindley and his son Hareton. He seduced Hindley into a drunkard and gambler and in this way to win all his possessions. So

23、Hindleys son Hareton, who should be the master in the neighborhood, was reduced to in a state of completely depended on his fathers inveterate enemy and lived in his own house as a servant, was deprived of all possessions and treated brutally. Heathcliff took the veils off his adversary and destroye

24、d utterly in Hindleys life , even innocent peoples life.Edgar had high social position and wealth which Heathcliff had never enjoyed before. Heathcliff was gloomy to run away from Wuthering Heights. Perhaps in Heathcliffs opinion, Edgar was the obstacle of his love. He hated Edgars robbing his lover

25、 and made his life full of great hysteric pain. Heathcliff married Edgars young sister Isabella and began to scheme to owned their assets. Heathcliff had ever said ,“I forgive what you( Catherine) have done to me, I love my murdererbut yours, how can I”(1), the hate was full filled in his heart beca

26、use of Catherines death. Then he forced Edgars daughter Cathy to marry his own dying son so he can owned the Thrushcross Grange of the Lintons.Third, Heathcliff was cruel to his own family. He didnt love his wife, Isabella, even hated her, however, he could pretend loving her and showed deceitful de

27、sire before they got married just because he was eager to see Catherines being heart-broken by using the marriage of Isabella. As soon as they got married, Heathcliff exposed his evil nature. He promised that Isabella should be Edgars proxy and she deserved this kind of suffering. Because of their m

28、arriage, Isabellas elder brother Edgar dropped intercommunication between them so Isabella lost her support. At that time, Isabella was seriously ill-treated and had nobody to tell her bitterness. Heathcliff destroyed Isabella who loved him in full heart. As a husband, Heathcliff didnt take responsi

29、bilities for her wife, even when his wife gave birth to his son, he didnt care for them. He didnt care about his son until he wanted to take use of him as a tool to proceed his revenge.Heathcliff failed to be a father. He could only find Lintons faults and showed scorn at him. Heathcliff just feed his son and never gave warmth to his son. For Heathcliff, family didnt mean warmth and kinsh

31、ip but as a tool to realize his evil plan. Heathcliff was a selfish man who could proceed his own desire by any means. To vent his resentment to Earnshaws and Lintons, he took use of his wife and son doubtlessly. His revenge destroyed the two families even their after-generration. Heathcliff made hi

32、s whole life to proceed the avenge on those people who he thought destroyed hia life. For all the people, it was Heathcliff that destroyed their life in return. His crazy revenge destroyed everyone, including himself. From the process of revenge, Heathcliff, from the oppressed became into oppressor. But he didnt get happiness though he destroyed all peoples life. It was the love he born for Catherine.
