Except today, were not in the Cafe.Y: 没错。我们现在是树林里。不过这都是Jody的主意，如果我有选择，我宁可舒舒服服地呆在咖啡馆里。J: Aw come on, Yang Chen, this is going to be fun. Out in the woods enjoying a campfire. Thi

2、s is what I call living large! Living the good life! Dont ya (you) think?Y: 你说得到轻松。Living large活得自由自在。先别自在了，你看我们点的火都快灭了，快拿手电筒来。J: You said you were bringing the flashlights.Y: Jody! 你不是说你要拿手电筒吗？ 哎呀，现在怎么办呢。J: Hey, theres no reason to panic.(Enter animal sound)Y: (getting anxious) Jody! 这是什么声音，后面是不是有狼

3、啊？J: Thats not a wolf. It was probably just a raccoon. Were fine, Yang Chen.Y: 听这声音好象是一个个头很大的动物. 我们在树林里，火又快灭了。都怪你非要到这里来作节目。你赶快想办法让火烧得旺一点好不好！J: Okay, okay. Calm down. How big do you want the fire, Yang Chen? Do you want it as big as a bonfire?Y: Bonfire? 是什么？J: A bonfire? Well, it just so happens tha

4、t on todays show we have two experts, you could say, on bonfires. Arent we lucky? Heh heh.Y: Lucky? 今天我们这么倒霉你还敢说是lucky?J: Oh, whatever. Lets go to our guests. First lets hear from our good friend CT, a man who claims to have built over 100 bonfires in his life.实录1: CT: A bonfire is a large campfire.

5、 It is just a bunch of wood you collect from natural surroundings and put into a pile and then you light it on fire. And ideally you have more wood and you keep throwing it on and on, making the flames bigger and bigger and then it burns out.Y: Bonfire 就是篝火，只不过比普通的篝火要大，Jody, 他刚才说点这种篝火要准备很多木头，不断地往火里扔

6、。J: Yeah, I heard that. He did say that ideally you have more wood and you keep throwing it on the fire. Heh, what a great idea. Okay, Ill go get some more wood while CT tells how big a bonfire should be.实录2: CT: Well it depends on your neighbors. If your neighbors like bonfires I would say you coul

7、d have a nice size fire in a plot of land that is 20 meters by 20 meters. But maybe you want to have something thats 50 meters by 50 meters. Heres Marty.实录3: Marty: Uh.a bonfire is anytime youre burning any lengths of wood. You can throw in trees . th

Heh, boy, fire is really important.Y: 你很聪明。J: Yang Chen, I bet this is what primitive people, you know原始人, felt like thousands

11、riginal source of heat in the world; it is burning wood so .It smells good. 13、re we are in the great outdoors for yet another episode of American Cafe. (Deep inhale) Ah! Just smell that fresh clean air! Isnt this great, Yang Chen!Y: Yeah, yeah, yeah. 你说的没错。一起都很好。 (Slap) 又一个蚊子。J: Good. Im glad youre having fun too. Im having a ball! I just love camping. Mmm, feel that campfire

14、.Y: 我就不明白。你为什么怎么喜欢到野外来呢？J: Because you feel free. Look around. Theres nothing but nature. No cars, no traffic, no people bothering you.Y: 算了，算了。我不跟你说了。那我们下面该干什么？J: Well, we already built a fire. That was really fun! And we cooked a little dinner. Hot dogs and baked beans, mmm . a real traditional ca

15、mpfire dinner.Y: 我肚子倒是饿了，不过你看热狗也烤糊了， baked beans又是冷的。凑合地吃吧。J: Well, here - have some nuts.Y: Mmm, 有花生，还有开心果。 Mmm, 这还不错。J: Mmm . 不错。 Now, one thing to do when youre camping for fun is to tell stories around the campfire. Lets invite our friend Marty to share a story of his favorite bonfire during a t

16、rip he took to Canada.实录1: Marty: Well, we went up . we went up to Canada and we went to this humongous national park. Its on this lakes (The Great Lakes) So you canoe, you canoe between the lakes.Y: 他刚才说的canoe就是独木舟的意思。Humongous这个词很有意思。我想 humongous是巨大的意思把。J: Exactly. Humongous. H-U-M-O-N-G-O-U-S. Ma

17、rty uses it quite a lot.实录2: Marty: And when youre out three days the only way to get back in is to canoe three days back in or get a helicopter, obviously a helicopter could pick you up. But otherwise theres no walking out. Its all . its all water and everything. Theres no, you know, driving or any

18、thing like that. The only way out is to canoe yourself outta (out of) there.Y: 哇整整三天都在划独木舟啊？J: Exactly.Y: They are crazy.J: That sounds crazy to me. And Marty said the only way out is three days by canoe again or a helicopter.Y: 要不你就再划独木舟划化三天时间划回去，或者让直升机来接他们，只有这两种方法。J: Exactly.Y: 他们是在什么地方？ 听上去到蛮好玩儿的

21、ng friends. Oh, Marty said something funny that is a good expression in English. He said we were pulling in some monster trees. Yang Chen, how do you translate that.Y: I know. Monster trees 也是很大的树， 是吗？J: 对了。Y: 这个不好翻。J: I think the English is the best to explain it.Y: 没错，没错J: Pulling in some monster

But I dont think well talk about it today. But we will talk about Sandy Hansen. Sandy owns a business called Womens Histor

25、y Alive!Y: Womens History Alive! 就是用舞台表演的形式来讲述妇女在历史上的地位。 Sandy一个人要在舞台上扮演好多的人物。J: Thats right. Sandy takes the rich history of women that is often ignored in history classes and in history books and takes it to the stage to really make it alive.Y: 我们在看完了Sandy表演以后就马上就采访了她。实录1: Sandy Hansen: Im Sandy H

26、ansen. Im from Holland, Michigan. And my business is called Womens History Alive. I do one-women plays on famous women in American history.J: When Sandy realized that the history of women was overlooked, she created a way to fill the void!Y: Fill the void, 就是添补空白的意思。J: And the void she wanted to fil

27、l is an area of womens history. Sandy got her degree in Womens Studies and it was such a new concept that she literally had to design her own major.Y: 没错。很多大学根本没有妇女历史这门课。其实是不对的，妇女为了推动历史做出这么大的贡献。你看历史上有过那么多伟大的女性，Harriet Tubman.J: Oh, and dont forget Amelia Earhart.Y: Susan B. 29、多的妇女认识到只要有决心她们也可以改变历史。J: Its just a great idea to increase a womans confidence that theyre able to do whatever we want. 30、 than just women. Sandy feels that womens history is essential to every single person: boy, girl, male, female.
