Thats 20 000 pennies and Im almost half way there already! I cant believe that just by collecting $25 in pennies, I can provide clean wa

6、ter for one person for the rest of their life! And, by meeting my goal of eight bags of pennies I will be giving two families clean water for life!Its great fun to collect change and create change. 11、explored, they found islands where people who used simple Stone Age tools lived. The Europeans wondered how the islands were settled thousands of years ago.In the late 18th century, Captain James Cook and his team of scientists, including Joseph Banks, studied the Polynesian cultures. The word Polyn

12、esia comes from the Greek for “many islands”. Cook and Banks discovered that the languages on the Polynesian islands were very similar. They also found strong similarities between these Polynesian languages and the languages in Southeast Asia.Between World Wars and ， many scientists went to the Sout

13、h Pacific. They were looking for evidence to support the Southeast Asia theory. They wanted to find out migration routes. Findings were debated, and challenges to the theory arose. The best known came from Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. In the mid1940s, his theory was that South America was the

14、point of origin. He held that the major migration route moved westward. Further evidence came in the form of Lapita pottery (陶器) that had been discovered on several islands. Domesticated (被驯养的) animals and crops were also found on some islands. They were all linked to Southeast Asia, except the swee

15、t potato. This Polynesian basic food was native to South America. It was the only real support for the South America theory.Most scientists agree that the evidence strongly supports a major eastward migration. It might start from Southeast Asia to New Guinea, in the southwest Pacific Ocean, north of

16、 Australia. From there the route led southeast through the islands known as Micronesia and Melanesia. From these islands, the route extended (延伸) farther east to the Polynesian islands of Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa. These islands then made voyages farther south, north, and east. They possibly reached as
