3、 Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a language for encoding documents containing structured information. XML has very broad application, but is widely recognized as a rapidly emerging standard for moving data over the Internet. XML files are basically structured text files and can be viewed just as
4、 you would any other file containing textual information. It is much more than just simple text, however, because it is also easily understood by computer software. The use of the Internet to exchange electronic business documents (eBusiness) is growing exponentially. Organizati
6、ons engaged in eBusiness are quickly converging on the use of XML as the best way to exchange information. The reason for this is that XML, a standard defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), is a simple, easy to grasp method of encoding information in plain text. In addition to being a very
7、sound means for moving data over the Internet, XML files provide a good way of moving data between applications.The power of the growing XML marketplace affords the oil and gas community the opportunity to leverage the XML organizations and software that are being created to tremendous advantage. 8、 adopting this new technology, industry can lower the cost of maintaining and exchanging well log data and more easily exploit the Internet revolution to greatly improve the efficiency of doing business.What is POSC Doing with XML? POSC is promoting the creation of standard XML document definitions
9、(called Document Type Definitions, or DTDs for short) for use in exchanging E&P data in several domains. 12、ored by POSC, Oilware and INT, is focused on creating an XML DTD for exchanging well log data. Version 1.0 of that DTD has been published by POSC. The sponsors envision that the WellLogML specification will replace the popular LAS format as the preferred means of exchanging well log data in the Indu
13、stry.LogGraphicsML 1.0: XML Format Description Standards for Well Log Graphics The objective of this project is to specify an XML-based markup language for definitions of graphic presentations of Well Log data. A schema specification using the XML Schema standard has been published. Most of the comm
14、on well log graphic objects are supported in this initial release, including track, index, channel, trace, pip, and fill area. WellPlotML: A Proposed Standard for the Presentation of Well Log and Related Information Technology continues to transform the way we distribute well logs. Compared to the t
15、raditional ways of dispatching tapes and faxes, we are now accustomed to sending emails with reports and attachments. Ongoing initiatives such as XML provide the means to combine the delivery of well data and plot information into a single, seamless process. Last year saw the emergence of two XML st
16、andards: WellLogML, specifying how the curve data should be structured LogGraphicsML, specifying how curve data should be displayed on the plot WellPlotML aims to establish the way users can collaborate over the Web (Internet and/or Intranet) using these and other evolving standards. MMS Reporting P
17、roposal POSC is working with the MMS to help them establish the means for electronic submission of regulatory information. We are currently conducting a pilot test of our ideas with the MMS. The project is incorporating various XML technologies to accomplish its objectives.BLM Sample XML Files POSC
18、is also working with the BLM to help them investigate XML for electronic submission of regulatory data. This project shows how three common regulatory reports can be defined, captured and presented in XML.ProductionML/Reporting This is a project to develop an XML DTD for use in reporting well tests,
19、 monthly and annual production and performance forecasts to regulatory agencies. We have constructed a preliminary DTD for reporting on wells, reservoirs by well, fields, leases/licenses and facilities. Another goal of this project is to investigate the possibility to create and maintain a customize
20、d DTD as the source specification evolves.WellSchematicML The description of well schematics in XML is the subject of this proposed project. The scope is the entire well, including the wellhead and multiple wellbores, boreholes, casing and tubing strings, surface and downhole equipment, perforations
21、 and open hole intervals, survey points and workover (intervention) intervals.Geophysics ML Proposals The description of geophysical acquisition and processing objects (e.g., source events, stations, receivers, bin nodes) and data sets which reference them is the subject of this proposed project. 22、th seismic and potential field data are included.eosML Proposal This is a project to rapidly develop an XML specification for equation of state (EOS) data for compositional fluid modeling. The proposed service relies on XML technology as the basis for storing the reference values.POSC Exchange Format (PEF) in XML The RP66 formulation of POSC Exchange Files has been too heavy for general use. The PEF XML
24、 proposal maps Epicentre (or any data model, for that matter) into an XML file in a simple, consistent manner. The July 20, 2001 paper is a formal recommendation for this XML file.XML Components and Objects Use of XML Schema to develop various XML files has led to the development of XML Objects. The
