What is your responsibility as Third Engineer on U M S ship without Fourth Engineer ? : As a Third engineer on U M S ship, generally speaking the following description must comply. 1) Carry out work as or

4、dered by the Second Engineer in accordance with the maintenance plan 2) Doing routine watches at sea and in port 3) Responsible for reasonable consumption and stock of spare parts 4) Supervision and maintenance of Auxiliary Engines, Boiler plants, Starting air compressor and air dryer, Fuel Oil and

5、Lub Oil Purifiers , bilge pump and bilge water separator, incinerator, Cargo and mooring equipment , Cold and hot water systems and so on. 5) Weekly running test and maintenance of Boiler safety valve, Emergency air compressor, Emergency fire pump, life boat and rescue boat. 6)Daily routine operatio

6、n such as ballast or de-ballast , boiler soot-blowling , burning of garbage and waste by incinerator and oily bilge or sludge oil transferring. 7) Responsibility for chemical locker, taking sample and analysis water quality from boiler water system and main engine cooling water system , proper chemi

Have you ever worked on U M S ship? How do you do for U M S ship ? : Yes, Sir. I served at U M S ship for two times as Fourth Enginee

9、r. Generally we take the routine inspection in engine room for three times a day. the morning when we go to work , the afternoon when we get off work and the midnight when we go to bed. I think that watchkeeping on U M S ship, the most important thing is follow the Unmanned machine checklist from SM

10、S document made by company. Carefully check the facilities in Engine room according to the checklist and make sure that all of engine are in good order condition, and everything is normal before leave. If alarm sound during U M S mode, the duty engineer should go to the engine control room, response

11、 the alarm and set the mode to MANNED, and make call linkage to bridge before investigating the problem , Afetr settle the malfunction, recover the mode to Unmmaned, and cancel the call linkage to bridge, meantime keep records at log book for time,causes,action to be taken. 6. Whats your duty at bun

12、kering operation ? Can you talk about somthing about Bunkering ? : Generally speaking, my specific duty during bunkering is control the valve and sounding oil. About the procedure of bunkering, we must comply with the bunkering checklist from comany SMS document. For example, Oil Spill Response mate

13、rial in place ; Red flag or red light showed ; Deck to be drained for water ; All scuppers on deck must be tightly plugged ; Drip trays under the bunker pipe flange to be drained and the plugged ; NO SMOKING signs displayed ; Check bunker tank air pipes are opened ; Re-confirm space remaining in bun

14、ker tanks ; Fire extinguishers and fire hoses ready for use ; Discuss bunkering plan with supplier and sounding oil at oil barge ; Establish signalling system and make sure the pumping rate with the bargeman ; Sampling prepared ; open all relevant lines and valve ; Keep constant sounding during bunk

15、ering , For heavy fuel oil , usually take sounding by ullage and all of tank capacity for filling are better no more than 90 %. 7. How do you maintain your equipment? : Generally speaking, I can do the my housekeeping according to the maintenance plan manual from the Company; In this manual, I can u

16、nderstand the maintenance interval and what job to be done at relative interval ; In my last ship, we use the Amos software by computer to make the routine work order. But if no manual and computer, we only do our maintenance work according to the instruction of equipment. 8. How do you maintain Air

For the specific job , At 1 month, we should clean air filter ; check high pressure and low pressure safety valve and activate manual lever to blow safety valve to ensu

18、re free movement ; check the function of unloader ; check crankcase oil level ; At 3 months , we should check the suction and discharge valve , overhaul as necessary ; if heavy carbon deposit on valve , need to lift piston to check worn scraper ring ; check the surface of cylinder liner ; check cran

19、kcase for the tightness of bolts and nuts ; clean and renew Lube oi l ; At 12 months , we should overhaul compressor completely and dismantle air inter-cooler and after-cooler for clean and descale . 9. How do you maintain Purifier? what job needs to do ? : Follow the maintenance plan manual , we do

20、 the proper maintain work at the relative interval. For the specific job , At 1 month, we should dismantle bowl and sliding bowl bottom mechanism for cleaning ; check seal ring , O-ring and renew as necessary ; check operating water for proper flow ; dismantle and clean control oaring disc (gravity

21、disc) and water passages as necessary ; lubricate lock ring , spindle cone and bowl nave bore with molykote when assembling ; clean pump strainer and seal water filter ; At 3 months , we should dismantle bowl and sliding bowl bottom mechanism for cleaning ; check all springs and clean all water oper

22、ating nozzle and passages ; Luricate operation slide mechanism with molykote when assembling ; renew valve plug if worn ; dismantle and clean control paring disc (operating water device) ; check bowl spindle shaft height and ball bearing ; inspect driving gear and renew sump oil ; At 12 months , car

23、ry out complete overhaul , cleaning and renew worn parts , O-ring , packing ; dismantle power transmission device; overhaul feed pump ; check height of control paring disc. 10. How do you maintain Oily water separator? what job needs to do ? : Follow the maintenance plan manual, we do the proper mai

For the specific job, At 1 month, we should remove oil level detector probe for cleaning; check function of level controller for the first chamber and second chamber; check the electrical connection of level controller; clean bilge pump suction filter; clean the

25、strainer of separator; At 12 months, we should overhaul separating column, clean internal parts such as coaleser; check and overhaul solenoid valve.11. For the specific job, At 3 month, we should check and clean condenser sea water side,brush through cooling tube with tube brush, check for corrosion of tube; replace zinc anodes as required; descale evaporator sea water side with correct concentration of SAF acid; check and clean salini

27、ty sensor; At 12 months, we should overhaul ejector,check ejector nozzle; overhaul feed valve,check and lap valve and valve seat,adjust valve pressure. 12. How do you maintain incinerator ? what job needs to do ?: Follow the maintenance plan manual, we do the proper maintain work at the relative int

For the specific job, Every month, we should dismantle burner unit; clean and check condition of atomizer, sprayer body and burner head; check ignition device and burner operation in automatic and manual modes; check and clean inside of furnace and clean deposit; check all safety devices. 13.

For the specific job, At 1 month, we should clean air filter of root blower; check driving belt tension and adjust as needed; check oi

30、l level in gear case of blower; adjust the return sludge to aeration tank from settling tank by the air lift pump; check and refill the sterilizer with chlorine tablets; check waste water discharge pump operation, replace gland packing; check ball bearing for noise or overheating; check bearing lube

31、 oil level. At 3 months, renew oil for root blower; check discharge pump bearing for noise and overheating; check pump mechanical seal for leakage; renew pump lub oil. At 6 months, Inspect aeration compartment and discharge the excess sludge; stop the inflow of soil into the plant when discharging t

32、he excess sludge; use discharge pump to discharge 75% of the mixed, discharging can only be done in unrestricted water; clean the interior of screen in the aeration compartment; check clarification compartment for soil, clean with sea water or fresh water as necessary; test and confirm function of a
