LITERATURE REVIEWMany years ago, several researches and experiments have been carried out to understand the relationship between students gastroi

Tom had injured his esophagus completely when he was a child, and that ended him having a gastric fistula. Scientists have taken the opportun
8、ity and studied the gastrointestinal reactions to stress on Toms gut. They reported the following changes on his stomach while he was emotionally stressed by his academic performance in school: 1- stomach membrane became deeply red due to rapid influx of blood, 2- small ulcers developed on the surfa

Major effects of stress coming from academic performance have been noticedwhen the stress is becoming higher and higher, the gastrointestinal system will get something wrong, which will in return influence the academic performance. In a study posted in stress management on September 7th, 2010, t
10、hey also showed the significant relationship between college students gastrointestinal problems and their academic performance. Gastrointestinal problems are common problems that get associated with stress coming from academic performance. Within 300 students half male and half female, 25% got gastr
11、ointestinal problems. Almost three quarters of them are girls who are usually much tenser than boys in terms of academic performance. Each time they have to give a presentation on study, they might be accustomed to feeling the butterflies in their stomach and might do presentation not perfectly enou
12、gh as the prediction. Or maybe theyre prone to getting ulcers in their stomach when things seem to be getting tough. These instances should show us how the emotions are intrinsically connected to our gastrointestinal health. Simply put, when the gastrointestinal problems get worse, their academic pe
13、rformance will be affected badly. According to some researchers, stress, not only coming from academic performance but every aspect of life might actually be capable of exciting certain areas of the brain and these are the areas which are responsible for the pain receptors in our body; and they end
14、up activating the pain receptors that are placed in the esophagus, making them more sensitive than they actually are. This would mean that the acid levels among the stressed and non-stressed people would remain the same; but they would just make every drop of acid in the stressed mans body count for
15、 that much more pain. Once a person is stressed, the levels of the hormone prostaglandins is also said to be lowered. This is the substance which helps in protecting the outer lining of the stomach from acid. Similarly, once they feel the pain, how can they concentrate on their study?In our study, w
16、e went a little further and tried to see if there is a significant relationship between Guangdong University of Technology students gastrointestinal problems and their academic performance. We gave respondents a piece of questionnaire where they had to answer some questions related to the gastrointe
17、stinal problems and their academic performance. This reflected their lifestyle and study behavior. And we also contain some knowledge about dealing well with the relationship between two objects. MOTHODOLOGYParticipantsParticipants were composed of 120 Guangdong University of Technology foreign lang
18、uage school students from four different grades (freshman, sophomore, junior and senior), 60 male and 60 female. We selected the participants from Japanese, English (trade and economy) and English (translation) classes on a strictly volunteer basis. MaterialsPlain white paper used to print the quest
19、ionnaire we designed was given to participants. There were 11 questions with options on the questionnaire. From the questionnaire, we can know something about participants diet habits, academic performance pressure, general information and views on the relationship between gastrointestinal problem a
20、nd academic performance. Design and ProcedureThe questionnaire was designed to investigate the relationship between college students gastrointestinal problem and their academic performance. We hypothesized, that there was a significant relationship between college students gastrointestinal problem a
21、nd their academic performance. The survey began with us going to the library and reading relevant material in the library. We also searched applicable resource online. After collected mass of resource, we framed our questionnaire which had 11 questions with appropriate and reasonable options. Everyt
22、hing got prepared, we published our questionnaire online, and meanwhile, we handed out our questionnaire to our schoolmates.
