4、6References 7Chapter 1 IntroductionThe Call of the Wild is the master work of Jake London.The protagonist sled dog Buck originally lived in Santa Clara Valley,an unkissed house,enjoying a luxurious life.At the same time,the golden rush made thousands of people rush into the Northland but Buck had no

5、 sense of that.Unfortunately,he was sold by the gardener of judge for he has not enough money to gamble.And a dog trainer taught Buck the law of club.He was beaten but not broken,Then he was send to the Northland.There he saw his first snow.And he began to set foot in a wild world.He saw a dog died

6、the first day he came there and knew that he must struggle for live.Then he learned many lessons.To allay hunger,he learned to steal food.To keep worm when sleep,he learned to dig hole in the snow field.He soon adjust his new life as a sled dog.And he was more resourceful and brave than other dogs.H

7、e fight with Spitz for the header of the group and Buck was the winner at last.Soon he was a famous sled dog.But a period of time later,Bucks team was replace by another team and Buck was sold again for they were not as excellent as before.They did more than before.At last his last master Thornton s

8、aved him.Buck was loyal and goodness only when he accompanied Thornton.But when Thornton was killed by Indians.Buck connection with human was completely interrupted.He cant resisted the call of the wild any more and blended in wolf pack.He became the leader.Then he killed the Indians and live a free

9、dom life in the wild.Chapter 2 Analysis of characters2.1 Persistent and dauntlessBuck possessed a sprit as precious as gold.His love for fighting was to struggle to survive.When he was sold by the gardener,he attack to the man several times with his sharp teeth.But what he did was in vain.Never in a

10、ll his life had he been so vilely treated, and never in all his life had he been so angry. Buck did not yielded.When he opened his eyes.He saw the man who kidnapped him. His jaws closed on the mans hand, nor did they relax till his senses were choked out of him once more. Buck resisted many times in

11、 the way.They said that Buck was a devil,And he was true a red-eyes devil.Buck was beaten for several times at dog trainerplace until he lost consciousness.And Buck wanted to be the leader after he defeated Spitz.But the master let another dog took that position.Buck was very angry and never comprom

12、ise.The master had to put aside club and let Buck the leader of the group at last.Buck was a winner and stand on the position of leader with smile.And once,the master wanted to move on when the ice on the river began to melt.Af first all of the dogs did not move.But the master ruthlessly whipped the

13、m.So all dogs except for Buck struggled to their feet.Buck lay on the ground as before in spite of whipping.He did not whine or struggle.Even though the master used club instead of whip.Buck never move.So we can see that Buck was full of struggle sprit.Buck had a strong adaptability.He was sold to a

14、nother people.They took Buck and some other dogs to the Northland.The life here was quiet different from the life in the Southland.He had been suddenly jerked from the heart of civilization.Here was neither peace, nor rest, nor a moments safety.The men and dogs were savages and knew no law but the l

15、aw of club and fang.One day he saw a dog that took the same boat with him stroke down by another dog and many other dogs was teared into pieces.Buck learned that once down,that was the end of him.Buck quickly adapt the life here.In order to got away from cold,he learned to dig a hole in the snow fie

16、ld when he slept.And Buck always could not get enough food.So to fill the belly,he swiftly lost the fastidiousness which had characterized his old life and learned to steal food or robbed his companion food after he saw saw one of his companions malinger and steal others food.Just as author describe

17、d,the theft showed that Buck can survive in the virulent world.Besides,Buck learned to crack the ice to drink when he was thirsty.There are also many other lessons that Buck learned in the Northland.All of these showed that Buck was adaptable.2.2 Yearning for freedomBuck longed for freedom.He went f

18、rom nice and bright Southland to the Northland of ice and snow.And Buck quickly adapted the challenging life here and love the Northland.Just as author described,in vague ways he remembered back to the youth of the breed, to the time the wild dogs ranged in packs through the primeval forest and kill

19、ed their meat as they ran it down. It was no task for him to learn to fight with cut and slash and the quick wolf snap. In this manner had fought forgotten ancestors. They quickened the old life within him, and the old tricks which they had stamped into the heredity of the breed were his tricks. The

20、y came to him without effort or discovery, as though they had been his always. And when, on the still cold nights, he pointed his nose at a star and howled long and wolflike.Buck became stronger and began reviving the original ferity.And once they chased a rabbit,author wrote “the blood lust, the jo

21、y to kill-all this was Bucks, only it was infinitely more intimate.He was sounding the deeps of his nature, and of the parts of his nature that were deeper than he, going back into the womb of Time. The tidal wave of being, the perfect joy of each separate muscle, joint, and sinew in that it was eve

22、rything that was not death, that it was aglow and rampant, expressing itself in movement, flying exultantly under the stars and over the face of dead matter that did not move”.Buck lived a happy life here.It was freedom and exciting.When Buck was together with Thornton,he was more freedom than befor

23、e.Constantly,deep in the forest a call was sounding, and as often as he heard this call, mysteriously thrilling and luring.Buck wanted to run to deep in the forest many times.But he did not want to leave Thornton.So after Thornton was killed by Indian,Buck ran into the forest without hesitation.So B

24、uck was yearning for freedom.He loved the freedom life.2.3 A vicious cunning rulerBuck was a natural leader.When he first got the Northland,the leader of the group was Spitz.Buck learned a lot from Spitz except for how to be a good sled dog.The first few days they got the Northland,one dog was kille

25、d for no reason and Buck remembered the original slaughter.Buck hated Spitz at that moment.And he wanted to replace Spitz as time goes on.Buck got vicious and cunning.And he had strong muscles.The master once said that Buck was a devil and he might killed Spitz one day.Spitz was also aware of that B

26、uck was a threaten to him.So Spitz often look for trouble for Buck and never missed the chance to protest to Buck.But Buck did not indiscretion although Spitz provoked to him many times.Gradually,Buck openly threatened the Spitzs leadership.He made other dogs of this group against with Spitz.When Sp

27、itz wanted to punished other dogs when they made a mistake,Buck protected them.Buck interfered between Spitz and the culprits;but he did it craftily, when Francois was not around.Once a dog malinger and hidden in his nest under a foot of snow.Spitz was wild with wrath.When he was at last unearthed,

28、and Spitz flew at him to punish him, Buck flew, with equal rage, in between.So unexpected was it,and so shrewdly managed,that Spitz was hurled backward and off his feet.And other things like this often happened.Finally,Buck seize the opportunity and stroke him down.Of course Spitz was die.Buck was n

29、ot a pet dog but a cruelly wolf in the Northland.So Buck became the leader of the group,and where judgment was required,and quick thinking and quick acting,he showed himself the superior even of Spitz.But it was in giving the law and making his mates live up to it,that Buck excelled.Buck proceed to

30、lick his teammates into sharp.The general tone of the team picked up immediately.It recovered its old-time solidarity, and once more the dogs leaped as one dog in the traces.And at the lead of Buck,they made many records.So as we can see,Buck was a natural leader.2.4Full of loveBuck was a affectiona

31、te devotee.When rescued by John Thornton,his last master,he was in a dying condition.Then he was slowly rescued with Thorntons good care.He would join the funny games with his new teammates.No fight and no slaughter.Buck was very happy.When he was with Judge,it was a stately and dignified friendship

32、.But love that was feverish and burning,that was adoration,that was madness,it had taken John Thornton to arouse.This man had saved his life, which was something; but further, he was the ideal master.Other men saw to the welfare of their dogs from a sense of duty and business expediency; he saw to the welfare of his as if they were his own children.Faithfulness and devotion, things born of fire and roof, were his.What Thornton said was order to Buck.He would never held back even Thornton let him jump off
