Since I took the IELTS test in December 2014, I have been keen on applying the
2、standard into my teaching practice, which leads me to write about this topic. In the writing process, I have experienced more puzzle and frustration than joy and surprise. 7、irst- hand materials related to IELTS speaking test. #Abstract#As an increasing number of students choose to study abroad, international tests for EFL students such as IELTS and TOEFL are gaining popularity. A well- designed test should objectively evaluate the examinees linguistic competence and re
8、flect the candidates ability in dealing with practical communicative problems in daily life. IELTS is short for the International English Language Testing System, a globally proven English language test and a valid indicator used for screening university applicants, immigrants and professionals. The
9、 11 to 15- minute speaking test consists of three parts, including an introduction, an individual long turn, and a two-way discussion between one candidate and one examiner, who makes assessments based on the IELTS Speaking band descriptors:# Fluency and coherence, Lexical resource, Grammatical rang
10、e and accuracy and pronunciation. The four standards can be employed by English teachers in high school setting to improve students oral English. #With the implementation of the New Curriculum standard, people attach more importance to the use of language rather than its forms and rules. Many parent
11、s, especially in coastal regions, are keen on sending their children to oral English training courses. Students go abroad for education at a younger age. How to improve students communicative competence and their oral English has always been a hot issue in China. For high school teachers, its of gre
12、at benefit to improve oral English teaching efficiency and effectiveness. In Guangdong Province, English test is divided into two parts in College Entrance Examination, including a written test (135/ 150) and a computer-based language test (CELST) (15/ 150), mainly designed to assess students listen
13、ing and speaking abilities. Preparing for the CELST usually involves daily practice. Both teachers and students are greatly motivated in terms of enhancing efficiency in the practice.#The paper consists of six parts. #Chapter one introduces the background, purpose and significance of the research, w
14、hich includes the existing problems in current oral English teaching, the requirements for high school students and the significance of implementing the IELTS speaking test standard in high school oral English teaching. . #Chapter two reviews relevant theories about IELTS speaking test. This paper m
15、ainly discusses communicative language teaching and theme- based language teaching.#Chapter three introduces several approaches of the teaching practice in four aspects, including fluency and coherence, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation and intonation. #Chapter four describes the procedures cond
16、ucted in the experiment with one controlled group and one experimental group, including questionnaires, interviews and two tests. #Chapter five analyzes the statistics of two examinations and compares the data between a controlled class and an experimental class. #Chapter six shows the important findings, problems still exist in the reading teaching, as well as the suggestion to the further enlightenment and the limitations of the study.#Keywords:# IELS speaking test, communi
