6、riented language teaching programs for adults.The center for applied linguistics called competency-based ESL curricular“the most important breakthrough in adult ESL”.,CBLT(Competency-based Language Teaching),By the end 1990s,it had become to be“the state-of-the art approach 现代化的教学方法 to adult ESL”by

7、policymakers and leaders in curricular development as well.(Auerbach 1986:#411)Recently in some parts of the world(E.g:#Australia)CBLT,as a major approach to the planning of language programs.,Views from Advocates of CBLT,“Competency-based approach to teaching and assessment offer teachers an opport

11、e United States at that time(1991)that the students we serve were not being included in the standards-setting movement that was sweeping the country.(Short 1997:#1)p142,Approach,In term of theory of language-CBLT is based on a functional and interactional perspective-which means that language learni

12、ng always needs to be connected to the social context it is used in.Language is seen as“a medium of interaction and communication between people”for achievement of specific goals and purposes.,In term of theory of learning-CBLT is also used as a framework for language teaching in situations where le

13、arners have specific needs and are in particular roles and where the language skills they needs can be fairly accurately predicted or determined.-CBLT shares with behaviorist views of learning the notion,certain life encounters call for certain kinds of language.,-CBLT takes a“mosaic”approach to lan

14、guage learning,the“whole”(communicative competency)is constructed from smaller components in the correct order.CBLT is also built around the notion of communicative competence and seeks to develop functional communication skills in learners.All these aspects together show that CBLT is in some respec
