Because unavoidably influenced by the Chinese language, Chinese culture and the way of Chinese thinking mode, it has possessed its unique linguistic characteristics at the levels of phonology, lexis, syntax and discourse. In the last, the application of China English in vocational English langu
4、age teaching has been pointed out from textbook designing, teaching in class and distinguishing China English and Chinglish, which proves to be helpful in English practical teaching and learning. 5、要:中国英语是以汉语为本族语的人们在其特定的语言环境下所使用的一种英语变体。中国英语与中国式英语截然不同,后者指的是中国人错误使用的一种畸形英语现象。本文在分析中国英语及中国式英语区别的基础上给出了中国英语的新定义:中国英语,以规范英语为核心,是中国人使用的一种英语变体。由于不可避免地受汉语的语言,文化及思维方式的影响,中国英语在音位、词汇、句法及语篇层面均表现出中国英语独有的特点。本文在最后从教材改革、课堂教学、区别中国英语与中国式英语三个方面探讨了中国英语在中职英语教学中的运用,其在实践教学中有一定的意义。 关键词:中国英语;中国式英语;特点;中职英语教学 Introduction In
6、the last half century, “popular enthusiasm for learning English” has been increasing continuously. “It is estimated that the total number of the persons speaking English in the world had reached two billion by the end of the twentieth century.”1The rapid internationalization of English must lead to
7、its widen nativization. The extensive contact with other languages and cultures gives rise to the variation of the language. Apart from the “standard” British English and American English, there are other Englishes such as Canadian English, Australian English, New Zealand English, Indian English, So
8、uth African English, Singapore English, Malta English, Zambia English, Hongkong English, Japanese English, China English2.Various kinds of English with regional color haved eveloped constantly, and are accepted gradually, which play a more and more important role in national communication, external
9、and intenral as well. China English in China has experienced an unusual history. Unlike the other English varieties which can conjure up immediate national identification, China English used to be considered a kind of degrading English, a brutal violation of the standard English. Great effort has be
10、en made by the teachers to eliminate it from the students output. It was not until 1988 that, equipped with sociolinguistics, Huang Jinqi first appealed to confirm the positive aspect of “Chinese-colored English”. His voice was immediately echoed by Sun Li who held that some research should be done
11、on the “English in China”. Wang Rongpei even went farther to point out that China English is an objective reality and we have no reason to deny it. He also defined it as “the English which is used in China and based on the standard English but characterized with Chinese features”.3Li Wenzhong distin
12、guished between China Engilsh and Chinglish in 1993 and maintained that China English is a standard variety, while Chinglish is a “deformed English”, and that we should be lenient in dealing with China English. Soon, he was flooded with the controversial views. China English is an English variety us
13、es by the native-Chinese people for communication under the specific language environment. This paper, on the basis of the comprehensive analysis on the differences between China English and Chinglish, tries to give a new definition of China English and describe its characteristics at the levels of
14、phonology, lexis, snytax and discourse. At the same time, the author points out that the study of China English especially its characteristics is of great value to English teaching and learning in China.The present dissertation consists of four chapters.Chapter One, China English are clarified in co
15、mparison with Chinglish. Chapter Two, Impact of Chinese on China English, exploring the objectivity and reality of its existence, telling the impact of Chinese on China English from Chinese language, culture and thinking mode.Chapter Three, Characteristics of China English, describing its characteri
16、stics at the levels of phonology, lexis, snytax and discourse.Chapter Four, Application in English teaching and learning, telling the present situation of English teaching in China, the Function of China English in English teaching and learning and pointed out the application of China English from t
17、extbook designing, teaching in class and distinguishing China English and Chinglish. 1 China English and ChinglishChina English is chosen to refer to the English spoken by native Chinese, and if refers to a foreign-language variety of English used by Chinese in intercultural communication in accorda
18、nce with normative English especially for meeting the needs of expressing something peculiar to China. It is different from Chinglish. 1. 1 Definitions of China English and Chinglish China English is an English variety used by the native-Chinese people for the communication under the specific langua

20、English” was first used by Ge Chuangui in an artical about translation. In a paragraph of less than 600 Chinese characters, Ge asserted the inevitable existence of “China English”. He said, “English is the language of the English people, so all other people who speak English should certainly follow
21、the idiomatic way of the English people; however, each nation has its own peculiarities, and so far as our nation is concerned, there are some typical Chinese things to express in either written or spoken English”.5He listed such expressions as “baihua”(白话), “Hanlinyuan”(翰林院), “ideological remouldin
22、g”(思想改造). In Ges opinion, China English expresses things typical of China and is understood by foreigners after some explanation, and most importantly, it is constructed on the basis of following the idiomatic way of the English people.This paper, presents a new definition of China English: China En

Though influenced or interfered with by Chinese, it is understandable and acceptable to native speakers of English. When Chinese scho
25、lars speak “peoples commune”(人民公社) and “four modernizations”(四个现代化), they are not using Chinglish or Chinese English but China English, which can best express what are unique in Chinese culture. Chinglish, or Chinese English, is a deformed English phenomenon misused by Chinese people, and it obvious
26、ly violates the general English rules, culture and custom; its composition and use scope are unstable and limited; besides, it does great harm to international communication and the spreading of Chinese civilization. Therefore, Chinglish is not accepted by native English speakers. Most sentences of
27、Chinglish are even arranged in Chinese structures. The following sentences are good examples about Chinglish: (1) My stomach is hungry. 我的肚子饿了。(2) My age is very young. 我的年龄很小。(3) His brain is clever. 他的脑子很聪明。All the English versions above are organized in Chinese structures and are publicly thought
28、 of as non-normative English.1. 2 Relationship between China English and Chinglish China English and Chinglish are interrelated in some aspects: both of them are to express Chinese things and have Chinese features. Yet there is an essential distinction between them: China English is normative Englis
29、h and a member of the world Englishes; its composition and use scope are much richer and wider than Chinglish. China English, with its increasing publicity to the world, will exert a great influence on the English language. However, Chinglish is a deformed language with the unstable composition and
30、narrow use scope; it can cause barriers in Chinas international communication and culture spreading. Some Chinglish sentences have entered English, for instance, the sentence “Long time no see.” originally is a pidgin English. But now it is uttered by many native English speakers. Nevertheless, such
31、 cases are very rare. It should be noted that there is a great deal of pragmatic errors in the materials publicized to overseas countries and areas. According to the statistic data made by Duan Liancheng, by the end of 1990, there had been over 2000 sorts of booklets to foreign countries just in Sha
32、ndong Province of China. The corret use of China English is a good solution to the difficult translation problem. Therefore, the scientific study of China English is of great importance to both linguistic theories and social reality. 2 Impact of Chinese on China English China English has experienced an unusual history.
