13、lder women were not socialized in how to handle independence, much less view that state as a positive or desirable option. They were socialized to appreciate man and to view other women as competition rather comrades. In talking with married women in their late 50s and early 60s, I have found a grea

14、t many who confess that they have few, if any, female friends that they consider intimate. For some, a daughter has become a confidant as she, too, has entered marriage and parenthood. In most cases, however, it is the husband who, over the years, has become the sole emotional support for her. When

15、many of these women find themselves suddenly alone, due to a divorce or the death of their husbands, they discover that they have not only lost the partner, but also lost the one person in the world with whom they have shared their grief and pain.1. Evil can never succeed, not while there are men and women like the people of Va.Tech who reach every day for success.” This week, we reflect on what has been lost and comfort those enduring a profound grief.
