Inrecentyears,theAmericansitcomTheBigBangisverypopularamongtheChineseaudiences.Butitisknownthatthereisnotwelldevelopedtheoryavailablefortranslationinsitcoms.Especiallythestudyontheverbalhumortranslationinsitcomshasnotbeentakenseriouslyenough.SothisthesiswillchooseTheBigBang6asanexampletoexplorethetranslationstrategiesofverbalhumorfromtheperspectiveoffunctionalequivalence.Thethesiswillclassifytheverbalhumorinsitcomsintocommonhumor,wordplayhumorandculturalhumor,andthenexplorethetranslationstrategiesbasedondifferenttypesofverbalhumor.

Domesticreseachonverbalhumorislaterthanabroad.XuDong（1984）andShaoHua（1987）summarizethedevelopmentresearchandconnotationsofverbalhumor.WangWei（1983）thinksamusementbystudingthecharacteristicofhumorcomparison.ChenXiaoying（1985）agreewithXuDing,shethinkscomparisoncancreatehumor.WuTugen（1991）andJiYuxiang（1992）analyzethereasonsforgeneratinghumor.Theyproposerhetoricaldevicessuchasmetonymy,antithesis,metaphor,pun,euphuisim.

After2000,thestudyofverbalhumorisbecomingmoreandmoreabundant.FanYunlong（2011）accordingtodifferentstandards,humorcanbedevidedintoseveralcategories,humorcanbedevidedintohigh-levelhumorandlow-levelhumor,italsocanbecallednoumenonhumorandnon-noumenalhumor.Accordingtotheform,itcanbedevidedintoverbalhumorandnon-verbalhumor.

Overthelastdecade,withtheintroductionofsitcomsinChina,thesitcomscomeintoviewastherepresentativeofverbalhumortranslation.ButsitcomshaveashorthistoryinChina,theresearchofthisareaisininfancy.DongHaiya（2011）putforwardAHumorousStudyofSitcoms.Shesummarizesthelinguisticfeaturesofthesitcom.Forthepastfewyears,master’spapersandjournalsalsabegantostudysitcoms.GengFang（2014）publishedStudyonSubtitleTranslationofTheBigBangTheory.YueFeifei（2013）publishedTranslationofHumorinTheSubtitleofTheBigBangTheoryAsASitcom.Althoughtheresearchonverbalhumorofsitcomsindomestichasstarted,thereisnomatureguidingstrategy.SothisthesiswillchooseTheBigBang6asanexampletoexplorethetranslationstrategiesofverbalhumorfromtheperspectiveoffunctionalequivalence.

3.TheoreticalFramework

Afterthelitera
