Thehealthofthefamouspicture，paintedbyLeonardodaVinciin1505，isgettingworsebytheyear，accordingtotheLouvreMuseum（卢浮宫）whereitishoused.

“Thethin，woodenpanel（画板）onwhichtheMonaLisaispaintedinoilhaschangedshapesinceexpertscheckedittwoyearsago，”themuseumsaid.Visitorshavenoticedchangesbutrepairingtheworld'smostfamouspaintingisnoteasy.ExpertsarenotsureaboutthematerialstheItalianartistusedandtheircurrentchemicalstate.

Nearly6millionpeoplegotoseetheMonaLisaeveryyear，manyattractedbythemysteryofhersmile.“Itisveryinterestingthatwhenyou'renotlookingather，sheseemstobesmiling，andthenyoulookatherandshestops，”saidProfessorMargaretLivingstoneofHarvardUniversity.“It'sbecausedirectvision（视觉）isexcellentatpickingupdetails，butlesssuitedtolookingatshadows.DaVincipaintedthesmileinshadows.”

However，theactualhistoryoftheMonaLisaisjustasmysteriousasthesmile.DaVincihimselfloveditsomuchthathealwayscarrieditwithhim，untilitwaseventuallysoldtoFrance'sKingFrancisⅠin1519.

In1911，thepaintingwasstolenfromtheLouvrebyaformeremployee，whotookitoutofthemuseum，hiddenunderhiscoat.HesaidheplannedtoreturnittoItaly.ThepaintingwassentbacktoFrancetwoyearslater.DuringWorldWarⅡ，FrenchhidthepaintinginsmalltownstokeepitoutofthehandsofGermanforces.
