Requirementsforatwo-nodefailovercluster
Tocreateafailoverclusterwithtwonodes(regardlessoftheserviceorapplicationthatthenodesprovide),youneedthehardware,software,accounts,andnetworkinfrastructuredescribedinthesectionsthatfollow.

Hardwarerequirementsforatwo-nodefailovercluster
Youwillneedthefollowinghardwareforatwo-nodefailovercluster:
∙Servers:
Werecommendthatyouuseasetofmatchingcomputersthatcontainthesameorsimilarcomponents.
Important
YoushoulduseonlyhardwarecomponentsthatarecompatiblewithWindowsServer 2008.
∙Networkadaptersandcable(fornetworkcommunication):
Thenetworkhardware,likeothercomponentsinthefailoverclustersolution,mustbecompatiblewithWindowsServer 2008.IfyouuseiSCSI,yournetworkadaptersmustbededicatedtoeithernetworkcommunicationoriSCSI,notboth.
Inthenetworkinfrastructurethatconnectsyourclusternodes,avoidhavingsinglepointsoffailure.Therearemultiplewaysofaccomplishingthis.Youcanconnectyourclusternodesbymultiple,distinctnetworks.Alternatively,youcanconnectyourclusternodeswithonenetworkthatisconstructedwithteamednetworkadapters,redundantswitches,redundantrouters,orsimilarhardwarethatremovessinglepointsoffailure.
Note
Ifyouconnectclusternodeswithasinglenetwork,thenetworkwillpasstheredundancyrequirementintheValidateaConfigurationWizard.However,thereportfromthewizardwillincludeawarningthatthenetworkshouldnothavesinglepointsoffailure.

∙ForSerialAttachedSCSIorFibreChannel:
IfyouareusingSerialAttachedSCSIorFibreChannel,inallclusteredservers,themass-storagedevicecontrollersthatarededicatedtotheclusterstorageshouldbeidentical.Theyshouldalsousethesamefirmwareversion.
Note
WithWindowsServer 2008,youcannotuseparallelSCSItoconnectthestoragetotheclusteredservers.
∙ForiSCSI:
