Releasedbackin1990theCanonEF35mmf/2isoneoftheMethusalemsinthecurrentEOSlensline-up.OnfullformatDSLRsit'samoderatewide-angleprimelenswithtypicalapplicationssuchasstreetorlow-lightphotography.

Regardingitsconstructionitiscloselyrelatedtoitsflankingbrothersandsistersofthatlensera,namelytheEF28mmf/2.8andEF24mmf/2.8.Thebuildqualityisfairlydecentbutit'salittledatedbycurrentstandards.Thisisespeciallytrueforthefocusringwhichfeelsalittle"scratchy".Thelensextendsalittlewhenfocusingtowardscloserdistancesbutthefrontelementdoesnotrotatesousingapolarizerisnoproblem.

TheAFdoesrelyonanoldmicro-motorsoAFoperationsareabitonthenoisysidealthoughthereisn'tanythingtocomplainaboutregardingAFspeedaswellasAFaccuracy.FTM（full-timemanualfocusing）isnotavailable.
