Abstract
ThepaperelaboratesonthethemesofdeathpoetrybyEmilyDickinsonandHaiZiandthereasonswhytheyinfatuatewithdeath,includingthesimilarities,differencesandthefactorswhichchangestheirattitudetowarddeath.
Thepaperconsistsoffivechapters:
Introduction,LiteratureReview,SimilaritiesandDifferences,CausesAnalysisandConclusion.InthepartofIntroduction,thepaperwillgiveabriefintroductionabouttheauthorandherpersonalexperiences.LiteratureReviewwillquotesomerelevantresearches’status,includingtheemphasisanddevelopmentsituation.Inthirdpart,thepaperwillfocusonthesimilaritiesanddifferences,includingtheirattitudetowarddeath,emphasisondescription,expectationofworldafterdeathandthepassionforlife.Inthefourthpartwillgiveoverallanalysisonthefollowingaspects:
socialbackground,religiousbeliefcrisis,transcendentalismandpersonalexperiences.Thelastpartwillmakeasummaryandrestatethethesis.
Withtherapiddevelopmentofliteraturecareerinrecentyears,thereweremanyresearchesaimstopromoteculturalexchangesbetweenChinaandtheWest,especiallyfocusonthedifferencesbetweenChineseandWesternpoetry.Andgetaconsiderabledevelopment.Therefore,theultimatepurposeofthispaperistodeepentheirunderstandingtothepoetsandtheirsworks,promoteculturalexchangesbetweenChinaandtheWest,encouragecitizenstopaymoreattentiontolife,respectlifeandcherishlife.

随着近年来文学事业的快速发展,出现了许多旨在促进中西方文化交流的课题,尤其是对中西方诗歌主题差异的关注,并得到长足的发展。
因此本论文的最终目的在于加深人们对诗人本身及其作品的了解,促进中西方文化之间的交流,以鼓励更多的人关注生命、尊重生命、珍爱生命。

1.Introduction
1.1EmilyDickinson
EmilyDickinsonwasbornonDecember10th,1830inthetownofAmherst,Massachusetts,shebegantowritepoetrywhenshewas20yearsold.Dickinson'sgrandfatherwasthefounderofAmherstStateCollege.Herfather,aconservativeman,isthetown'schieflawyer.Dickinsonreceivesorthodoxreligiouseducationfromchildhood,andthustheirlifeismonotonousandcalm.Sherarelygooutsidewithherfriends,andonlytraveledonceduringherlifetime.After1858,shekeepherselfathome,until1870s,shestayedinherroomandneverwalkedout.Shewascalled"nunofAmherst"bythelocals.Dickinsonhadnotreceivedadvancededucation,onlystudiedinagirls'schoolnearAmherstfornearlyoneyear.Butanyonewouldnotdenyhistalentonpoetrywriting,Sheisahumorous,creativeandopen-mindedgirl.Shewrotepoetryinsolitude,nearly1,775poemshasbeenleft.Onlysevenpoemswasreleasedinherlifetimebyherfriend.Shelivedalonelyandreclusivelife.Becauseshebelievedthattheworldissonoisy,shewantedtoescapetheworldandliveinthehousewhichisbuiltbyhersoul.
Therearetwomentorshaveaimpactonherinheradolescence.OneistheheadmasterofAmherstschoolcalledLeonardHumphrey,andtheotherisBenjaminNewtonwhoservesinherfather’slawfirm.Theygiveheralotofhelpinstudy,especiallyNewton,heoftenguidesherwhatbooksshouldbereadandhowtoread,inspiredhertounderstandthebeautyofnatureandharmoniousworld.NewtonalsopreachesherCalvinistreligiousthought,sosheacceptedtheCalvinistthoughtandideas.Theseideasbecameherlife'scredoandlatervividlyreflectedinallherpoemsinside.
1.2HaiZi
HaiZiwasbornonMarch25th,1964,inAnqing,Anhuiprovince.HisrealnameisZhaHaisheng.HegrewupinaruralareacalledZhaWanvillageinafarmer’sfamily.Hewasregardedasprodigyinthehometownhelivedin,becausehewasadmittedtoPekingUniversity,whichisregradedasoneofthetwomostfamousuniversitiesinChina,whenhewasonlyfifteenyearsold.HebegantolearnthecreationofpoetryduringtheperiodinPekingUniversity.In1983,hewasassignedtoChinaUniversityofPolitics&Lawtoteachphilosophyaftergraduatedfromschool.HesuicidedinShanhaiguanonMarch26th,1989.Hehasagreattalentandmiraculouscreativityonpoetrycreation.TherearetwomillionwordshaslefttoChineseliterature,butheisnotonlygoodatpoetry,butfiction,drama,essaysareallhisstrengths.
Hepayedallhiseffortstoexplorethetruemeaningoflife,buthefailedfinally.Hesuicidedontherailandleftendlesspitytobothhisrelativesandthereaders.Therearesomanystatementsabouthisdeath,Somepeoplethinkheoverusedhisbrainandevokedschizophrenia,somemaythinkthathisideaswererunoutandtrapedinadaze,butIprefertoadmitthathewasexplorethenatureofdeathatthecostofhisownlifeinordertoevokethecitizen’sreflection.
1.3TheSignificanceandPurposeofThisStudy
AlthoughplentyofresearcheshasbeenmadeonthecomparisonofChineseandforeignpoetry,therearemanystudiesonDickinson'sandherpoetryindomestic,butthestudybetweenDickinsonandHaiZi,twofamouspoetswhocomingfromcountries,livingindifferenttimesandinfluencedbydifferentculture,isverylimited.Thepapermakesacomparativestudyfromthepointofthemesofdeathpoetrybythetwopoetsinhopeofgainingamoreprofoundunderstandingtotheirpoetry.Thisisanewattemptandwillhelpdeepentheunderstandingofwesternculture.Itisconducivetothecommunicationofthepoetryculturebetweenbothsides.Andalsoencouragingcitizenstopaymoreattentiontolife,respectlifeandcherishlife.
2.LiteratureReview
TherehavebeenmanystudiescomparingChineseclassicalpoetrywithwesternattentionofthecriticalandtheoreticalrealminthewest,itisstillacommonpracticeforcomparatistsfrombothChinaandtheWesttousepredominantlyWesterntheoriesintheircomparativestudies.BothEmilyDickinsonandHaiZiarethemostwidelycanonizedpoetsintheworld.Theyconsistentlyagreedthatpoetryistheirlife,becauseitrevolutionizedtheirexistenceandalsoalliedthemwiththeimmortalworld.Thefollowingarethedevelopmentstatusofthistheme.
