MyEmorycolleaguesandIhavebeeninvolvedintellingtheEmorystoryformanyyears,butonereallyfunplanwebeganafewyearsagowasEmoryStoryCircles.WeorganizedaseriesofstorytellingeventsbuiltonideasfromNPR’SstoryCorpsandgrassrootscommunityorganizers,touseourpersonalandEmorystories,tocreatebonds.Inthesestorycirclesofabout8peopleincludingstudents,staffandcommunitymembers,eachpersontoldapersonalstoryconnectingthemtotheinstitution.

Ourfirststorycirclewasco-ledbySalmanRusdie,thegreatauthor.Hetreatedusallwithstoriesabouthisexperiencesasacollegestudentstudyinghistory.Thenwebrokeintoourownstorycircles,andeachofustoldourownstoryaboutourEmoryexperience.Throughthesestories,connectionsbetweenfacultyandstudents,collegeandcommunity,were

mademoretransparent.
