   However,colonizationforcefullybroketheirconnectiontothelandgenerationsago.Indigenouspeopleweredisplacedandtheirculturalpracticeswereoutlawed.Tensofthousandsofyearsoftraditionallandmanagementended,andasaresultmanypartsofthecountrynowfaceseriousdisastersfrominvasiveplantsandanimalspecies,bushfiresandlandmismanagement.

   Inrecentyears,thegovernmenthasrestoredmorethan20percentofAustralia'slandtoIndigenousowners.Since2007,theIndigenousRangersOrganizationshavebeenprotectingthisland.

   Luckily,oneofthefewnon-IndigenousemployeesworkingwiththeRangers,saidthecombination,newtechniquesandanappreciationforthecultureofIndigenousworkershavebeencriticaltotheprogram'ssuccess.
