In1968hejoinedthestaffoftheInstituteofAstronomyinCambridgeandbegantostudyblackholes.Soonafterwardshemadeanastonishingdiscovery.Hawkingsuggestedthatundercertainconditions,ablackholecouldgiveoutsubatomicparticles(颗粒).ThatisnowknownasHawkingRadiation.Hecontinuedworkingonthetheoryoftheoriginoftheuniverse.
