ChinesemedicineincludesallorientaltraditionsemergingfromSoutheastAsiathathavetheiroriginsinChina.PractitionersmayworkwithinatraditionthatcomesfromJapan,Vietnam,TaiwanorKorea.Itisacompletemedicalsystemthatiscapableoftreatingaverywiderangeofconditions.Itincludesherbaltherapy,acupuncture,dietarytherapy,andexercisesinbreathingandmovement(taichiandqigong).Someorseveralofthesemaybeemployedinthecourseoftreatment.

Chineseherbalmedicine,alongwiththeothercomponentsofChinesemedicine,isbasedontheconceptsofYinandYang.Itaimstounderstandandtreatthemanywaysinwhichthefundamentalbalanceandharmonybetweenthetwomaybeunderminedandthewaysinwhichaperson'sQiorvitalitymaybedepletedorblocked.Clinicalstrategiesarebasedupondiagnosisofpatternsofsignsandsymptomsthatreflectanimbalance.
