  Advertisingisawayofinformingpeopleofsomething.Thiscanrangefromtellingthemofaproductforsale,oraservice,orurgingthemtodosomething,oreventobringone’snamebeforethepublic.Soadvertisingcameoutquitenaturallyandtookmanyformsfromtheverybeginning.Forexample,thereisapapyrusdiscoveredatThebesofferingarewardforarunawayslave.Itisthreethousandyearsold—andit’sreallyanadvertisement!

SignboardsthatnotifiedpeopleofservicesavailablewereplacedoutsidedoorsinGreeceandEgyptaround1500B.c.—aformofadvertising.withtheinventionofprinting,advertisingbegantotakeonnewforms.About1477,inLondon,thefirstprintedadvertisementinEnglishannouncedaprayerbooksale.ThefirstnewspaperadvertisementappearedonthebackpageofLondonnewspaperin1625.Itwasnotuntil1704thatpaidadvertisementswereprintedintheUnitedStates.By1771therewere31newspapersinthecolonies,andallofthemcarriedadvertising.Today,ofcourse,weknowthatadvertisingisdonenotonlyinnewspapers,butalsoinmagazines,ontheradio,andontelevision.Thefirst“commercials”mercialsontelevisiondevelopedmostlyafterworldwarⅡ.TheideaspreadveryquicklyandtodaytheadvertisingthatisdoneonTVissofamiliartoallofusthatmanypeoplecanrememberthecommercialsevenbetterthantheshowstheysee!
