[J]ThereisaviewthatmodernhumansareinevitablysowingtheseedsofaglobalGrandBanks-styledisaster.Theideaisthatwearetakingmoreoutofwhatyoumightcalltheplanet'senvironmentalbankbalancethanitcansustain;wearelivingbeyondourecologicalmeans.Onerecentstudyattemptedtocalculatetheextentofthis"ecologicalgoodsandservices-theimplicationbeingthatatsomepointthedebtwillbecalledin,andallthoseservices-thethingswhichtheplanetdoesforusforfree-willgrindtoahalt.
