要
萨克雷，作为英国批判现实主义作家之一，在英国文学史上占据着非常重要的地位。
《名利场》是他的成名作品，这部无英雄小说，是他生平著作里最经得起时间考验的杰作，在英国现实主义小说的发展史上开辟了新的天地。
萨克雷因《名利场》叱咤文坛，与狄更斯齐名。
小说主要描写穷画家的女儿蓓基·夏泼，不甘受歧视，凭借姿色与机智，不择手段向上爬的故事。
蓓基的生活目标是获得财富和高贵的社会地位，为此，她不惜一切代价，利用身边一切可以借助的东西。
友情，亲情，爱情，都不及她那势力的目标重要。
也正因为如此，蓓基这个人物形象受到了大多数人的批判与鄙视。
但是，如果我们从女性主义出发，去解读《名利场》，会发现蓓基身上所体现出的正能量，更值得我们探究和弘扬。
本文将以女性主义的核心思想为切入点来解析这部小说，带大家从积极的角度看蓓基的拼搏奋斗的人生。

Introduction
VanityFairisthebestknownnovelofBritishcriticalrealismwriterin19thcentury.WhenVanityFairwasserializedonthenewspaper,itssubtitleis“thereisnoherointhenovel”.Becauseitdoesnotserveasleadingrolewithanoutstandinghero,eventhepositivefiguresarerarely.TheheroineRebeccaSharpisintelligentandwise;ontheotherhand,sheiswildoats.Thiskindofpersonalitymadepeopleloveandhate.Asaresult,shebecomesthemostgloriousroleinVanityFair.Thenovelisunderthemuchattentionofmanyliteraryscholarsbecauseoftherebelliouscharacter.
Body
Fortheappreciationandevaluationofthenovel,mostlyfocusedonthecharacterimage,whichisespeciallytypicalforfemaleimageasRebeccaSharp.ScholarsmostlyregardfeministthoughtasthebreakthroughpointontheanalysisofcharacterRebecca.Feminismisasocialtheoryandpoliticalmovement,itssourceandmotivationismainlyfromfemaleexperience.Itisthewomen'sliberationadvocatedbythemainproblem,itisthepursuitoffemaleequality,independenceandfreedom.ScholarscarryontheexplorationandinterpretationofVanityFairandshowtheirvariousandideas.Throughhistoryasweknow,inthe19thcenturyBritishwomenmainlystandonthesocietybyrelyingonfamilyroleratherthanprofessionalroles,sotheirsocialfunctionhasbeenlimited.Insuchasocialenvironment,womenattempttopursueequalityandfreedomissomethingveryhard.However,inBaiDan’sTheStudyofFeministColorinVanityFair,shepointsoutthatRebeccaisacomplexoffemininityandmasculinity,anditallcomesfromthewriterWilliamThackeray’scontradictoryviewofwomen.In"FromVanityFairtoSeeThackeray'sviewofwomen",ChenWeialsoanalysesthenovel’smainfemaleimagesfromtheaspectofThackeray’straditionalwomenview.Feminismhasalwaysadvocatedgenderequality.Androgynyisbeyondthegender,alsoonlyinthiswaycanwetrulyachievetheidealofequalityofmenandwomen.Thetheoryof“androgyny”isoneofthemostimportanttheoriesoffeminism.Andfeministpursuitoftheidealpersonalityof“Bisexualtemperament",isthedreamofcomprehensiveandfreedevelopmentofpersonalitybetweenmalesandfemales,thisisalsoapowerfulweapontoagainstthepolarizationofYinandYangandthegenderessencepermanent.TheactressRebeccaofThackeray’snovel"Vanityfair"flashedouttheaestheticcharmandhumanenergyandrogyny.Ontheotherhand,shealsoshowstheidealandthedilemmaofmodernofandrogynytoacertainextent.
ManyreadersanalyzedthetypicalcharacterofRebeccaSharpandAmeliaSedlywhowerecreatedina typicalenvironment.Theyanalyzedthesociety,familyenvironmentandhistoricalfactorsbehindtheformingoftheiroutlookonlifeandvalues.Ofcourse,thisresearchhasveryimportantsignificanceofsociology,aesthetics;butmostcriticspraisedthecharacterAmelia,anddemeanedthecharacterRebeccaaftercontrast.However,inthepaperof“ThePositiveSideofRebeccaSharpinVanityFair”ofWangguiyun,thewriterholdsanoppositeviewforthis.Fromfeministthought,shebelievesRebeccawhetheratthattimeortodaycanbecalledrichnessandmultiplesidewoman,sheispositiveontheotherside.AnotherexampleofthisisTanZongyan’s“ThePositiveInterpretationoftheComplexCharactersRebeccainVanityFair”.ThispaperanalyzesthecontroversialfemalecharactersRebecca.ItispointedoutthattheheroineinthenovelRebeccaisrenderedwithastrongartisticexaggerationandvividly.Intheappearance,shehasabeautifullook.Sheischarmingandfilledwithinterest.Inherinnerheart,shehassuperhumanwisdom,strongandindependentpersonalityandvitality,atthesametime,isloyaltofriendshiporevenlove.Therefore,fromtheperspectiveofpositiveinterpretationandfeminism,Rebeccawillgiveusmuchenlightenment.Therearemanyotherarticlesaboutthiskindofopinion,suchas“ToCatertotheFight---RebeccaandScarlettintheFeminismPerspective”whichwaswrittenbyHeQiang,andGuoYantao’s“TheParsingofFemaleConsciousnessinVanityFairofThackeray”.Mostofthesearticlespointedoutthattheflowofwomeninthepatriarchalsocietyinordertosurvive,buttheresistanceisatthesametimeaccompaniedbythesituationofcateringto,helplessandcompromise.
Certainly,therehaveprizeandcriticsofthecharacterRebeccawhopursuetheselfbravely.Forexample,inZengYanbo’s“TheInterpretationofMainCharacterofVanityFair”,thewriterthinksthatThackerayaskingwomenabidebyduty,tobuildingahappyfamilywithloveandsacrifice.VanityFairshowsThackeray’spatriarchalthought;heholdsadenialattitudetoRebecca.HecriticizesthecharacterRebeccawhopursuesfeminism.Ontheotherhand,hemadeLucyaderogatoryviewofherstrugglingoverone'sdestiny.ManycriticsbelievethatsheisaFemalecheaterandaspirantwhohasnothing,reliesontheirlooksandtrickery.Hernameandhypocrisy,worthless,dissolutetogether,butitseemstosaysoistooheavy.
Conclusion
ThecapableRebeccagetsintouchwithcountlessmen.However,infactsheisjustwanttoentertheuppersociety,soastolivearichlife.Althoughsheeventuallydeniedbysocietyforever,butpositivepersonalitymakeshernotdiscouragedwhenshefacingwithsuchsetbacks.Livinginthewanderinglife,Rebeccaneverlooksback,neverregret.Thepositiveideaoffeminismonherandherpursuitoffemalefreedom,equality,andindependencemadeherbecomesauniqueroleintheliterature.Althoughcritics’opinionsaremixedonthisimage,butIstillthinkthefemaleimagewhoflashingthelightoffeminismaddedothercolorstoVanityFair.ThecharacterRebeccaisagreatencouragementandguidanceforthatperiod,evenourmodernwomen’ssociallife.
