Heyerdahl’sraftwasmadeofninebalsa-woodlogstiedtogetherwithropes.Thelongestlogwas45feetlong.Nonailswereused,fornailswouldnothavebeenusedbyTiki’smen,andtheraftwascalled“Kon-Tiki”.Theytookonboardsuchfoodasfruitanddriedfoodandcoconuts,buttheyexpectedtolivemainlyonfish.Theytookaparrotasapet.Whenallwasready,theraftwiththesixyoungmenaboardwastowedoutfromCallalharborinPeru,andcastoffatthemercyofwindsandcurrents.
