Iletmyselfgetsweptupinthepressure.Mynewmottowas,ifIwasn’tineverysinglehonorlevelclass,Iwasn’tdoingenough.Iwasirritable(易怒的),Icouldn’tfocus,Istoppedtalkingtomyfriendsandmymom,andIcouldn’tfigureoutwhoIwas.Ileanedbackfrommysupportnetworks,andIdidn’thavetheconfidencetobelievethatmyownpassionsanduniqueskillswerewhatwouldmakemestandouttocolleges.

That’swhenIrealized:

IamnotmySATscore.Tryingtoconformto(遵守)whatIthoughtcollegeswantedmaskedwhoIreallyam.IdecidedtorelyonmystrengthsandgetawayfromthecrazypressureIwasputtingonmyself.

Insteadofforcingmyselfintohigherlevelsofmath,Itookonanextrahistoryclass.InsteadofforcingmyselftodoextracurricularsthatIhated,IcutbackandfocusedontheonesIloved.IlearnedhowtolovewhatIwasdoingandnotwhatIthoughtIwassupposedtodo.Ilearnedtoshineasanindividual,notafacelessmemberofthecrowd.AndIfoundthatnotonlywasthisbetterformyhappiness,itmadememoreeffectiveandefficientwhenIstudied.

Tome,individualitymeanshavingtheconfidencetodecidewhoIamandwhoIwanttobe,andanumberonapageisnevergoingtochangethat.Iammoresureofmyself,andmorereadytoapplyforcollege,thanever.
