Inthe1960s,whenChinawassufferingfromseriousfamine,hecameupwiththeideaofhybridrice,whichhasahighyield(oroutput).Tenyearslater,hesucceededininventinganewspeciesthatproduceda20percenthigheryieldthanmontypesofrice.

Yuandevotedhimselftotheresearchintoagriculture,&washonoredbyUNESCO&FAO(联合国教科文组织).Althoughheis74yearsold,heisstillworkingontheresearchintoagriculture.
