CharlotteBronte(1816~1855)

CharlotteBronte’snovelswererevolutionaryfortheexplicitwaytheydescribedwomenstrugglingagainsttheirrestrictedrolesinsociety.Herheroinesareoutspokeninexpressingtheirfeelings,whiledemonstratinghonestyandconscienceintheirchoices.Hernovel,JaneEyre,publishedunderaman’sname,wasverysuccessfulwhenitcameout.ThebookwasarevelationafterthemorereservedfeelingsexpressedinJaneAusten’snovels.

GeorgeEliot(1819~1880)

Hernovelsexaminedthemorallyambiguousconcessionspeoplemakeintheirlivesinordertosucceed.Inoneofherbooks,SilasMarner,theherodiscoversalittlegirlrejectedbyherownfather.Herfatherdidsoforfearoflosinghissecondwife’slove—amistakeforwhichthecouplebothsuffer.
